blackleywhite Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Looking at going to a league game in Europe one weekend this year. Was trying to sort out Munich while the beer festival is on but flights and hotels are a bit dear. Any advice on where to go for a good piss up whilst taking in a game? Needs to be cheap to get to. Cheers.
wiggy Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I'd recommend the Rome derby. Great city and a phenomenal atmosphere. Hard to beat if you ask me!
brixton Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Barcelona home games. I was on the Costa Brava a few years back and a lot of the hotels were running coaches to the games.
Spider Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Best atmosphere I found was, honestly, at Seville. Watched them against Barcelona a couple of seasons back and it was skill. After Atletico Madrid they are considered the most passionate fans in Spain (at which mosts grounds lack atmosphere by all accounts). The city is beautiful and a damned good weekend away. Avoid Real Madrid like a bad smell - imagine Old Trafford only with more Japs. Real Mallorca when they play Barcelona is good - Palma is more than just an airport. I am reliably informed by a mate of mine that Hannover and Hamburg are the pick in Germany - especially Hamburg for a top boys' night out.
Guest Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Why don't you go to a european FA.Cup final, atmosphere is awesome and very gd games aswell.
marple whites Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Barcelona is easy and cheap to get tickets whilst you are over there. We got top seats for about ??18 More chance of getting into Bayern Munich than flying to the moon (tried it this season)
blackleywhite Posted July 26, 2006 Author Posted July 26, 2006 Not too keen on Spain tbh, was thinking more northern Europe ie Germany, Belgium, Holland, where they sell good ale!! Hamburg is one I fancy, just flights to Germany from Manchester are expensive. I think the average ticket for Bayern is about 8 quid so not surprised they sell out every week.
Spider Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Try www.airberlin.com I found a direct flight to Hamburg for ??90 thurs-sunday. You gonna pay a bit more if you want the big weekend in Germany, lad.
jayjayoghani Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Going watching Hamburg on Aug 12th. Think the ticket is about ??25. Think there are cheaper tickets but not ??8. They sell-out too so you'd better buy in advance. www.hsv.de

top_boy_84 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I went to the last game of last season at the San Siro to watch AC against Roma. It was a really outstanding day (even saw a nice bit of ???ultra??? violence). Next time I go I???ll be in with the hardcore home fans as it looked fu??kin amazing. I???ve also seen Roma at home???.fu??king great week because Rome is a fooking beautiful city.
magic legs Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Went on a stag do to Hamburg and took in a St Pauli game - the atmosphere rocked in there considering its like a Div 2 game. A real alternative crowd and they play Hells Bells before the players run on. Of course Hamburg has the Reeperbahn too!
wiggy Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Matches at the Olympic stadium are fantastic .... so long as they are watched from the safety of seat high up in the main stand and well way from the bottle, seat and firework throwing and then the inevitable police batton charge at the away supporters.
Bridgey Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 barca vs espagnol, good atmosphere and was easy to get tickets mine cost about 50 euro for 3 a year back.
bolty58 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Went on a stag do to Hamburg and took in a St Pauli game - the atmosphere rocked in there considering its like a Div 2 game. A real alternative crowd and they play Hells Bells before the players run on. Of course Hamburg has the Reeperbahn too! That's the one to go to! Spent some time in Hamburg recently. The St. Pauli fans are like nothing else on earth! Every kink and weirdo you can imagine but for a lads weekend the craic would be superb.
Zico Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 be careful if going watching a serie A match, it maybe coma inducing, went watching Lazio V Regginna a few years back, Lazio had lost 1st game of season but gone next 18 unbeaten and would've gone top had they won they didn't it was a w??nk game the highlights were Jaap Stam cocking up for the goal (they lost 1-0) and getting a cappucino and a pizza at half time tickets are also weird in Italy, the ground might hold 80,000 but they only sell say 40,000 for the lesser games, and come 2.55pm it was a mad rush for what was left
blackleywhite Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 Am doing Hamburg, 150 quid for Friday to Monday with hotel. Wanted to come back Sun really but the fixtures cannot be guaranteed to be on Sat until later.
bolton in bedford Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Only one i done was Real Mallorca v Deportivo. Cracking atmosphere, totally different to England and felt weird sitting throughout the game with a steady flow of beer, and no stewards trying be power crazy fcukwits.
Guest Biff Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I went to see Real Oviedo play Atletico Bilbao a few years ago. It cost ??25 and I was sat directly in front of the President of Real Oviedo. Sadly Oviedo are no longer in the top division. At that time Prosinecki played for Oviedo and Carlos was their leading goalscorer with 7.

Been to a few in Mallorca Bedford, but I wouldn't describe the atmosphere as cracking for most of them. Madrid and Barca aside obviously. I went watching them play Santander last year and it was dull as shite. That said, agree 100% about the relaxed attitude of the stewards, and having a beer watching the footy is simply skill.
Traf Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 The beauty of Serie A matches is that you can usually find out the result before the match starts.
