Johhny Fold, bar a couple of streets, isn't a bad in my eyes. Worked on a few 'dodgy' estates - Bolton, that big one in W/shaw, Leeds, Salford, Lancaster, Blackburn, Carlisle and all could be clones of each other. Rylands Estate in Lancaster is the one I'm more familiar with at the moment. Although not a council estate a special mention should go out for the now departed De Lacey Drive in Bolton.

Kenyon Way, Little Hulton is bad but was much, much worse in the late 80's. Amblecote in LH is probably just as bad, but again, they've knocked loads of it down so it's probably got better.

 

There's some absolute belters in London - the Aylesbury Estate in Peckham being the worst I've seen. Illegal immigrants literally live in disused garages underneath the flats with no running water or anything. Third world living, in Britain. Very close to (if not precisely) where Damilola Taylor got killed, and basically not a place to visit after dark.

 

Got to be said though, a lot of shitehole areas have been regenerated in the last ten years. This country truly went to the dogs in the 70's / 80's.

Anybody know that that council estate's called or where in London it is that looks like something out of Space 1999? It's been used for a few channel 4 drama programmes (I think John Simm was in one of them) and it always looks rather scary.

Maybe, I did think it was London as the progammes are always set there but I could be wrong. All the houses have balconies and they're graduated to look a bit like pyramids facing one another with a walkway between.

You may be thinking of Thamesmead in London, used for lots of that kind of stuff, and was used to film Clockwork Orange too.

 

Massive estate, lots of walkways and basically very weird design wise. A fifties / sixties mistake. Especially when problem tenants from across London were housed there together, not the brightest idea. But it was built on contaminated land so it was never going to be the new Knightsbridge.

When i was a painter we worked on a few dodgy estates but the roughest was Cantril Farm in Liverpool. Rough as f*ck. The shops were broken down vans parked in the middle of the street.

By the way, the worst estate I've ever been to was in Bacup. God knows what it's called but sideburns and dungarees were in fashion there, and the men had a fair bit of facial hair too!

Lower and Higher Broughton! We had to do shifts and sit in the vans while the work was being undertaken in the nearby property! Even then the fukkkers tried to rob the van when one of the lads was sat in it!
