All this talk of food at the Reebok and a yearning to return to the old days of burnden has made me try and remember where the food stalls at burnden where situated.

 

I cannot remember any, apart from the one in the away end which you could see from the paddock. Where are the rest of them?

Do you know what irks me about the quality of the fodder they serve up at the Reebok? I'm sure this has been mentioned on more than several occasions, but in Bolton, we have various decent pie purveyors yet DeVeres buy their pastry products from Preston in polythene bags. It's just very wrong.

Bring back the locally produced pie, infact, why don't they ship in those loverly ladies who work at Greenhalghs to serve the pies on match days as a full service. Now this isn't racist, but Joyce and Sheila are much quicker at taking your order than Ali and Yusef. FACT!

I remember now. It was right behind where my grandad stood. I could walk across at half time to have a chat with him, thats why I remember drinking an OXO but never buying one.

I think you'll all find the technical term was Beef Tea!

Partingtons pies opposite Burnden, 3 for a quid at the time and 3 for ??1.50 at the moment (i think).

twas the scousers at heyschell that got beer banned. I remember drinking and slinging many a pint from the terraces on the mannie rd north before 85. Tetley bitter as i remember and proper hollands pies, though the ones from the bakery on mannie rd were even better.

the greatest pasties are from Ye olde pastie shoppe! it would be tremendous if they sold them at the bok, i doubt they could produce enough for the demand, although they do supply them to Gigg lane!

You used to be able to buy chewing gum in like plastic packets not like today remenber them being really hot and not being very chewy

i rember the food area in the lever end it was kind of under the marny road stand at the bottom of the steps and on the other side you had the fantastic bogs. i rember being able to get food in the upper tier of burnden it was very much like everton is now. only stood at about 10 games but cant ever remeber getting food.

I remember the Lever End fayre, you could get a brown ale as well, when Manure came in 74? 2nd division days my mate tw@tted a scum fan by smashing his red hot meat pie into his face, he screamed like f'uck, god them meat pies were hot, if I remember rightly it was Steve Coppells debut and I got a crack off a scum fan for slagging him off

I do remember the not very chewy chewy stuff, i could never understand why they sold it.

Its wasnt like it fills you up/warms you up /or fucks you up so why?

Also, it came in one of them plastic press-out containers like anadin or some such...

But no outer box.

Now at the time, i didnt understand much of economics, but it still felt somehow trampy to be buying a "part" of a box of something.

I've just had a flash back and can vividly remember the smell, and how dark it was in the "concourse-type area" with the wooden floors, and going up those few steps into the light and staring across at the the burnden terrace wanting to be there.

 

No idea how u went about getting fed int burnden terrace, but by the time i was going there, i would take my own bottle of rola-cola half emptied and filledd again with whatever was already open from the spirit cupboard at home.

Yes, our rise up the leagues in the 90's saw the introduction of an extra kiosk at the top of the steps leading up to the paddock from the St. Peters Way corner.
