October 19, 200619 yr Under achieved for me. Expected at least one trophy by now. From t'official site: Big Sam's Magnificent Seven IT IS seven years to the day since Sam Allardyce was appointed manager of Bolton Wanderers. On October 19, 1999, his 45th birthday, Allardyce returned to the Club he served as a player two decades earlier to take over the managerial reigns from Colin Todd who had departed some weeks earlier. Languishing behind the likes of Stockport County, Huddersfield Town and Barnsley in the then Division One, Wanderers were some way off becoming promotion contenders. What a stark contrast from today where they are third in the Barclays Premiership, just two points behind Chelsea and Manchester United! Following promotion to the Premiership, after that memorable play-off final victory in Cardiff against Preston North End, Allardyce did what no other Bolton Wanderers manager had done; he kept Wanderers in the Premiership. Seasons 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 saw Wanderers successfully fight off relegation as they adjusted to life in the top-flight. The signings of Youri Djorkaeff, Jay Jay Okocha, Ivan Campo, and more recently, Fernando Hierro, El-Hadji Diouf and Nicolas Anelka, plus the nuturing of home-grown talents such as Kevin Nolan, Nicky Hunt and Joey O'Brien, have not only enabled Wanderers to become an established Premiership force, but also a Club that is consistently challenging for Europe. The distinction of becoming the first Bolton Wanderers manager to take the club into Europe was bestowed upon Big Sam last season when his side reached the last 32 of the UEFA Cup, which exceeded all expectations. This season, his seventh in charge, promises to be the most exciting yet. Edited October 19, 200619 yr by Gonk
October 19, 200619 yr And Happy birthday! Great to share a birthday with the great man! You gave us a great birthday present few years ago when we beat Man U, lets have the same again this weekend! October 19, 200619 yr Neil Warnock made me think on MOTD 2 the other night. He was talking about Bolton and how far we had come when he mentioned that X amount of years ago (one for the stato's) he was in charge of a Scarborogh team that dicked us 4-0 and look where we are now. Thats a long way in a very short period.
October 19, 200619 yr wonder what is wage was when he signed and what it is now, there must have been some kind of annual performance related increase?
October 19, 200619 yr wonder what is wage was when he signed and what it is now, there must have been some kind of annual performance related increase? Are you talking about just his official wage from the club or his total pay package (allegedly ofcourse!!)
October 19, 200619 yr wonder what is wage was when he signed and what it is now, there must have been some kind of annual performance related increase? his wage will be a basic with bonuses to be had think i read quite recently, an estimate of about 900k dunno if that would include bonuses
October 19, 200619 yr And Happy birthday! Great to share a birthday with the great man! You gave us a great birthday present few years ago when we beat Man U, lets have the same again this weekend! Which is bloody ridiculous as we're not even playing Man United!
October 19, 200619 yr seven years ago i was devastated that the bolton board had took on a former player as it seemed like a kop out signing that might make us a mid table div one team at best and that he was the only manager who would accept the job under the sh??te situation we were in at the time i thought roy evans was the best man for the job
October 20, 200619 yr big sam was my secound choice at the time behind sammy mac but soon found out gartside made the right choice
October 20, 200619 yr at the time i thought roy evans was the best man for the job big sam was my secound choice at the time behind sammy mac but soon found out gartside made the right choice Amazed you two have posted those admissions! They cast a very dark cloud over your perceived football knowledge Ignore the fact that now first picks look awful, even at the time 7 years ago, they were shite. Thank f??ck Big Sam was appointed!!
October 20, 200619 yr Smiley predicted that Sam would be a future Bolton manager in White Love years before. He might be a fat c??nt, but he can see the future.
Well done Sam, couldn't ever expect to be where we are 7 years ago
Keep up the good work, Roll on Europe!!
