Just before Christmas I was boozing with a bloke who is on the board at FC United. :sorry:

Apparently Bury owe them money for some pies (!), and their chairman has assured the Newnichs they will be reimbursed in January because the bucket-shakers are getting a sell-on fee when Nugent signs for Bolton.

Sounds like arse biscuits given the figures that have been bandied about this week, but that's what I've been told.

Perhaps would have been more believable if I'd been able to post a fortnight ago!

i dont believe money would be spent on another striker, other positions need strengthening 1st imo...

I think it would be madness to pay money for a championship standard player. On loan or on a free, maybe, but frankly, he would be at best a bench warmer to cover short term injusries. Let's spend our money wiser as I think it is now showing you get what you pay for. That 8.5mill is now looking like a fine investment.

I agree with NB on this one, I really don't see us splashing a load of money on another striker, when we already have 3 decent ones...................especially when we are sadly lacking in the fullback department

Even Bury are not that hard up, as to be able to afford the cost of a couple of thousand pies..............................surely

Agreed on both counts. A right back, a centre back and a midfield player would be priorities for me.

However, the Davies business is still up in the air (no pun intended), and if he were to leave for one of the myriad of clubs he's been linked with of late we'd be left a tad short-handed up front.

Let's hope so! :D

I don't see any reason why the Bury chairman would have a clue what club is interested in Nugent anyway. It's none of his business anymore. Unless PNE chairman and him are pally

Talking of Pies and Cup Ties, wasn't there an occasion once where Bolton should have played a game and didn't, thus meaning a load of surplus pies, and these where then given out afterwards.............or something like that.

George or Biff (or some other wiley old sage) will no doubt know what I am talking about.....................unless I dreamt it

I do recall this as at the time I worked nearby. It was in the early 90's. It was a night match and it was called off due to rain or something like that. One of the old blokes in our office was mightily concerned as to what they were going to do with all the pies. I don't think they were given away though. That may be a Bolton Urban Myth.

The story I am referring to was supposed to have happened in the 50's or 60's I think......................you could still have been working nearby then I suppose

That'll be the 1901 FA Cup final which was played at Burnden. Hardly any bugger came, so loads of pies left over.

I'll get my anorak.

Cheers Mick, at least I can now rest assured I didn't make it up.

I am rather disspointed though that you didn't mention who played, who won, how many pies were produced (and what the breakdown was, i.e. 50% Meat, 20% Cheese & Onion etc) and how many people there where in attendance.....................and what indeed was done with the surplus savoury snacks
