Sven Mclaren

A lot of people were happy that Big Sam didn't get the England job because they feared he would play boring defensive football with 1 up front. Well at the very least that 1 up front would be someone who can do the job. I know they are injured but can anyone hand on heart tell me that we would have been any worse with the 2 Kevs playing last night. Whilst there are actually thousands, I just want to point out 5 reasons why Sven McLaren must be sacked....

1. P Neville and Barry. McLaren claimed that the only reason he didn't start Barry at left back was because he wanted someone who plays there every week for their club. P Neville has played midfield all season for Everton. He brings on Barry in the midfield and he actually looks half decent. What does McLaren do? He moves him to the position that he himself had said he shouldn't be playing in. WTF?

2. Lampard and Gerrard. 100+ caps between them and not one good England performance might lead some to think that this isn't going to work.

3. Shaun Wright Phillips. Presumably McLaren didn't bother to watch his only starts this season against Wycombe. And did anyone else notice how the BBC completely glossed over his dire performance. Nothing to do with one of the studio guests I'm sure.

4. Never was player's name more apt than the Toon playboy who returned to the England 11 last night. I was going to say the playboy who played for England last night but that wouldn't be true. I was also going to say the England team but they weren't

5. After the match he said that we threatened often and created lot of opportunites but were let down by our finishing. Was he pissed or asleep?

do you know anybody who thought mclaren should have got the job in the 1st place?

i sure dont.

England were shite last night, so no real change there.

That red face prick McLaren is clueless. But we already knew that as did the rest of the ragging country. So people ask why the FA gave him the job, and its simple, he's a YES man. He will do as the FA wants, won't speak his mind (al la Sam).

gary nevilleS THE LOTS OF EM!!!

to be honest i dont expect anything else- england friendlies are not even a spectacle... sven put pay to that... i dont think i have enjoyed a friendly since 1990. friendlies are effectively b game now

And another couple of things.......

6. Either (a)The players were told not to try or (b)The players themselves couldn't be bothered. This can only be because either (a) McLaren thinks we're so good that we don't need to actually use these matches to improve the team or (b)McLaren can't motivate the players and gives them the impression they will not be dropped regardless of their performance. Neither is acceptable

7. Would we have done any worse if the FA were paying me ??50K per year to manage the team?

I'm not arsed in the slightest about England until that knob goes.

In fact the decision to appoint him may have put me off England for life, why should I care when realistically the people who run it are pompous knobheads who know jack about the game?

While nobody thinks he was a great choice, I'm amazed there wasn't a bigger uproar, the guy has achieved nothing to justify getting the job.

The stupid formations and stuff were the final straw for me, he hasn't a clue. He is Graham Taylor all over again.

I didn't watch last night, not interested.

Part of me is hoping england lose the next game against israel just to get that piece of crap out of the job, and even if he gets sacked they will probably just appoint some other joker to take his place. I know we were crap under sven but i can't remember us going 4 games without a win and only scoring 1 goal.

I could rattle off a list of why McLaren was the wrong man for the England job but I can't be arsed - and I won't be teling you anything that you haven't heard already.

If McLaren get this new look Middlesbrough to the Euros then I'll be impressed, but only in a minor way. Qualifiying for championships is the bare minimum we should expext from an England manager.

When players of the ilk of Crouch, Dyer, P Neville are regularly picked in England squads we are totally f??cked.

That makes two of us.

Give it 2 more years, McLaren will get the chop & Big Sam will be installed after finishing his 10yr Bolton contract. I HAVE A DREAM :D

P. Neville should never have been in that team, he has played half this season at right back for us. We even prefer a centre back to play laft back than Phil Neville.....and he should have been in the England squad instead of Nev.

Dyer was shite....im quite sure that this lad doesnt know the off-side rule.

SWP was crap, but he did actually try to take players on.......!

if anyone watch the england egg chasers at the weekend, you will have noticed a maasive improvement from recent games.

in the commentary they kept going about how it was so simple because they were playing people in their specialised positions.

mr mclcaren was clearly not watching.

crouch does not work as a lone striker.

neville at left back.

swp on a football pitch from the start of a game.

the man is a balloon.

i would put widnes and mr h in charge and play friendlies in prague, amsterdam and columbia.

I'd be concerned if the England manager had spent his Saturday afternoon watching the rugby!

I'm not convinced Crouch even works as a footballer half the time, but he certainly isn't up to international level unless he's facing a third world footballing nation like Jamaica.

The biggest problem is everyone thinking English players are far better that they actually are. Frank Lampard is a classic example of a mediocre footballer who looks good in a system set up to suit him. The Lampard-Gerrard conundrum is a fallacy invented by people who refuse to accept that Fat Frank is rubbish. Ferdinand is one of the most overrated players in Europe, and Dyer is still earning plaudits for a run of form he had before he got injured five years back. The only players to come out of that game the other night with any credit would be Gerrard, Gary Neville (Gudni help us) and, to a point, Woodgate. The rest were/are awful.

Fortunately, I couldn't care less.

enzo has he sky plus, given the teams he puts out he does spend weekends watching football.

Just look at the 2 benches. Spain brought on Fernando Torres a player so well rated his club want about ??40 million for him. England could only muster Gareth Barry and Jermaine Defoe.

Playing Fat Fwank and Gerrard together has never worked.

For my money the team should've been

Foster

G Nev - Woodgate - Rio - Barry

SWP - Gerrard - Carrick - Downing

Crouch - Defoe

Which given the injuries is about the strongest line up we could put out. 1st choice 11 in my eyes is

Robinson

G Nev - Terry - Woodgate - A Cole

Lennon - Gerrard - Hargreaves - J Cole

Rooney - Owen

stick with what we know!

Personally I feel McLaren's biggest mistake was to drop David Beckham.

Don't get me wrong, Beckham isn't a world-class player but he's a world-class crosser of the ball and few take free-kicks better. I suspect a good percentage of England's goals over the last few years had some Beckham involvement. Even when England were crap, Beckham always seem to pop up with a free-kick or great cross.

Drop him if you have a ready-made replacement. If that replacement is SWP, then forget it.
