Given that Stoke is the armpit of the universe I dont think then are in position to complain. If someone told me right now that I had 10 seconds to live but I could ask for anything I wanted - it would be the precise, surgical and immediate removal and annihilation of Stoke and all its inhabitants. The only exceptions would be the councillors responsible for the roadworks and disruption to the A50 over the last few years. They would be shipped off to a special unit which would dissolve them slowly and painfuly over the next 50 years.

Then again i was backing Holker Old Boys against the hoards from FC United yesterday, and ended up with a twisted ankle, after having fallen over on that dodgy terracing, defending some Barrow girl. To much cheap Grolsh to blame.

Went round that area in 75 seeing a WHU fan who just lived round the corner from UP, in a cup tie against Swindon, then again two years later against Bolton, and if my memory corrects me, i remember nice little suburban streets with bay windows, and decent white working class folk in the boozers.

Got off the tube at Whitechapel and walked out into the street... though they'd name the place with tongue firmly in cheek.

 

Having been to many places in London in the last five years I thought I knew how sh!te the place has really got.. yesterday it went down another notch in my estimations.. East London?? Dont make me laugh.

 

The only pale faces were in the pub, the only pale faces around Upton Park were going to the game... some of the b@stards who did a number on our minibus on the way home...but thats another story.

My dad took me to London back in 66, when i was 12, he gave me a free reign to rome on a bus and tube rover about the place, while he was in the boozer, so i got to know the place. Over the years, watching the Whites, i went all the games in the Capital, but after the last five years in London, i dont see myself ever going down that place ever again.

Yep, it's Mile End Road George...think it's still called that round there... could be Whitechapel High Street

 

One end is Aldgate (the city, Gherkin) t'other is Bow, Mile End inbetween

 

As the City moves eastwards Whitechapel will eventually change all over again and be gentrified. It's less than a mile from the City... amazing that such wealth and such poverty sit literally side by side

The area around Upton Park is resemblant of Darfur.

Some might those pictures don't paint a true picture - to the contrary - there were actually a few white people on them (all though wether or not they were eastern european is questionable!). Me Smile and Peter North walked the entire length of Green st looking for a boozer because the one by Upton Park was mobbed post-match. The only thing to match Green Street's lack of boozers was the lack of white faces. We walked for about a mile and I swear to god the amount of apparently white "english" people we saw you could count on one hand. Now if you think the Englaish are racist, you should meet Smiley's mates Russian missus - Funny as feck!!

Then we got on a bus at the end of Green Street.

The only "whitey" on it was a very old gentleman. He was gripping his seat so tight. I looked at him and thought "this guy probably fought in the war for this country - and he must been heartbroken at the state its now in". The bus must have had over 100 people on it and we were in the minority. I was shocked.

This is meant to be the capital of our country - and it was like being in Mogadishu - I even swear I saw a downed Black Hawk at one point!
