Now Diouf May Leave

Featured Replies

Just been on BBC 5 Live - at least five clubs are interested (three confirmed as Lyon, Celtic & Spurs) and Diouf says he would like to play CL football either this year or next and may leave before the end of the transfer window. This apparently came from the mouth of the man himself

10m please.

you will get all this shite now till end of the month but will probably find neither douf or anelka end up leaving. i just hope faye fails his medical and has to return we need him to steady ship this season new contract or not. :search:

Is anyone suprised?

No loyalty - no matter how much they make you think they 'love the club'.

But losing Diouf, TBH, Anelka, Jussi & Allardyce in a year leads me to believe the ride is over - the championship beckons

And I'm usually such an optimist.

It's fantastic isn't it? His career was going nowhere at Liverpool, we take him on when others hesitated, give him a platform to perform, make him feel wanted and the moment the club needs everybody to pull together, he wants out! May explain why he was on the bench against Newcastle.

leaving a sinking ship comes to mind

fight possible relegation at a club in transition, or try and get a move to another top 6 club on more money...

hmm let me think???

May explain why he was on the bench against Newcastle.

or being dropped to the bench to accomodate Spaz Te might explain it

this was always going to happen once allardyce decided to leave the club, that is why I am angry with allardyce for leaving us even though the style of football was dire in the end, I think gartside has also cocked up bigtime, the job should have been advertised, at the time we could of picked up a big name and kept the players on board, I cannot see any way we can stay up with all the uncertainty and lack of togetherness within the changing room.

Just what my wife said when I told her not ten minutes ago. She also said perhaps I had underestimated Big Sam. I hope not!

While I would be gutted to see him go, and think it would spell the end of the Prem stay if we lose Diouf and/or Anelka.

I can kind of sympathise with him. Dropped to the bench for bambi, then asked to play with the misfits like Braten and Alonso. Must be damn frustrating.

Picked a terrible time to mouth off though.

so say we got some other guy, he loses 1st 3 games of the season due to totally changing the system, poor defending by players, other clubs unsettling players, allardyce nicking staff and players and a fair share of bad luck.

then fans would argue we should have got sammy lee, he already knows the players etc

i cant see them sacking sammy lee even if they go down, after what gartside said about him he wont want to end up with egg on his face. i also feel that if a new man comes in now its too late to change the players as the window is nearly closed. he will be working with same bunch he may be a better motivator though, but i think we will have to grin and bear it till at least jan. lets hope we turn it around and i think a new solid centre back and holding midfield player would make all the difference. think that stepanovic at pompey could be a short term answer.

nah, big names want big money

the lee appointment was v similar to the original alladyce appointment

cheap and eager to do the job for/with peanuts

lawrenson and hansen on MOTD said this would happen, looks like they were right

whether or not we sell anelka or diouf in the transfer window, we're fooked if they don't want to be here

If you read more of the interview he gave I think you'll find he is saying exactly what we all want anyway... that we have not losty our ambition without Big Sam!

Diouf made it clear he would only have a long-term future at the Reebok Stadium if the club spent heavily rather than cashing in on its best players.

He said: "If Nicolas goes I will be very disappointed. We need to keep Nico as for three years we have been doing very well. We need to go up to the next level and keep our good players as well as buying some more.

"We need to have a big squad so we need to get five good players in. We need to find big players. We have missed Tal Ben Haim but we also need midfielders and strikers.

"This season we have the Carling Cup, the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup as well as the Premier League so we need a big squad.

"We don't have a big squad like last season and I'm not happy about that. I want to play in a good team."

Diouf did have some words of encouragement for Bolton fans however.

He said: "We are not happy to have made a start to the season like this but we got out of a similar position under Sam Allardyce two years ago. Now we have a new manager, things are not going well but we just have to keep working hard.

"Sammy Lee is a different guy but he's a good manager. We are not having much luck under him now.

"I have known him for a long time since he was head coach at Liverpool under Gerard Houllier. But for the first game he put me on the bench - I don't know why. When I came on I did well every time to prove I want to do well."

Diouf was speaking ahead of Senegal's friendly with Ghana, which will be played in London tomorrow night at Millwall.

so he's not got a long term future then, spending heavily, do me a favour

so if Anelka leaves, he's off, great

no, it's bigger

"We don't have a big squad like last season and I'm not happy about that. I want to play in a good team."

Very strange statement. Maybe he can't count. Or isn't counting the ones who can't honestly pass as footbellers, Alonso etc

or maybe he was speaking in his native tongue and the translation is shite!!

Maybe he can't count.

I bet he can count his wages.

He won't be around much in January and February anyway! :nea:

Although i'm up for leaving it 10 games before I board the oust Sammy Lee campaign, can't help but think that the Premiership isn't a place for an unproven manager. Sure enough he's got excellent coaching credentials but maybe it's a step too big for the ickle fella. Some of his pre-season signings look like they were made on Football Manager and unfortunately we're in a bit of a rutt. I think we need to go back to basics in terms of team play and players like Diouf, Campo, Speed should be rallying the cause. I do think our fortunes will change very shortly as we havn't been playing ridiculously badly and things will take time to gel. Don't know what people expected when someone of Allardyce's stature exited the Reebok in a pretty appauling way. Think we will scrape survival this season and build from there. Looking at that article on the BBC, it looks more like Diouf is re-iterating the fact that Nico must stay rather than leave himself.
