Harry Redknapp has admitted Derby want to sign David Nugent but the Portsmouth boss says he wants the striker to stay.

 

Pompey signed Nugent for ?6m in July from Preston, but after starting the first two games of the season, he was on the bench for the last two.

 

The 22-year-old is now a target for Derby where he would link up with Billy Davies, his former boss at Preston.

 

"Derby do want to sign Nugent, but he's only just joined us and I'm happy to keep him here," said Redknapp.

 

"He's a young player and obviously he wants to play but at the moment Kanu has been absolutely brilliant, John Utaka's a threat and Benjani does well.
