Not One To Cause Alarm Or Spread Rumours

I was talking to someone strongly connected with the club today. In conversation, I was told that a deal for the Elk had been reached with Chelsea and he will be there in January.

I don't usually take any notice of this type of rumour but this is (allegedly) from the top of the club.

Be interesting to see if it's true but, until today, I honestly believed we wouldn't lose Nic.

don't worry, Michael Ricketts is available on a free.

This was also the message from belgrade from Mr gartside.

I will be amazed if Anelka is still here after Jan.

If he is going I hope the club are already talking to clubs about a fee and lining up 2-3 players from the fee to replace him.

It will be a disgrace if there is a load an umming and erring and he ends up going last minute with no one coming in to replace him.

I hope Chelsea and United get in a bidding war for him.

I would sell him to Chelsea for ?15m plus TBH. But can not see that happening.

I would be suprised also if he is still here in the new year however he does seem happy at fortress reebok so who knows. We all thought he would leave in the summer but he didn't

I will be amazed if Anelka takes a penalty again.

Thats exactly the thing. If he wants to go and we've been offered a fair price then lets gets it done and dusted in early January so we can get someone else in. I would hope that if we do get around ?15m then we will be seeing 3-4 quality players brought in. I'd love TBH back but just can't see it.

This may be a little simplistic but I think if the lad's happy, why sell him?

If we have a player who doesn't want to stop, like TBH, then let's get the best money for him (I was being ironic using him as an example btw.)

From all reports, the Elk is happy here, selling him would be madness, whatever the fee, and is playing into the hands of those who say we lack ambition.

Aye, but i suspect he'd be even happier with the pay rise he would get by signing for Chelsea <_<

I reckon if he's on his way anywhere it will be an undisclosed fee to try and stop replacements being overpriced

Garty stays at my sources house when he comes to Oz. Tells me it's an absolute nailed on done deal but there's plenty of cabbage involved. 20 million quid of Russki mafia money would do me fine and then let Meggers go to war with half of it.

I would still rather keep the Elk if at all possible but if there's plenty of money in the deal for us I am sure there are relatively undiscovered talents in Europe we could snare. Better enjoy watching t'lad over t'next few games because it seems there is a lot of substance in this particular rumour. Chelsea reckon he's good back up for Drogba. I wonder how Nic feels about that?

120k a week should help soften the blow <_<

Drogs knees fooked at the mo, plus he's off to the African Nations (If fit) So the Elk would get his chance to get a run in the side.

he's happy

but

he wouldn't be if we blocked a move to a top 4 club

given we all know that is what he wants

I'd like to see us spend the money on a decent replacement but I think it's more likely that a returned to fitness Helguson will be compared to a new signing

At the game yesterday I thought his body language was different. I thought the reason might be that he has been sold, then meggers was talking about how important it was that we get goals from other places other than Anelka and that Diouf needs to start scoring (next casulty?), seemed a bit fishy.

A poor move unless we can get a decent replacement IMO. Good luck to him though cant fault him since he's been here.

actually, did anyone see nolan's post match interview?

where he went about how good anelka was, important etc and hard to replace

then had to back track and point out he's not saying this because he's already been sold

done deal then

If he goes to a team that will continually be challenging for honours, then good luck to him. Let's get just hope that Meggers is given the c?12M~?15M to spend on improving the team.

As mentioned above, if the deal "has been done" then hopefully we have already lined some new players up already

If Anelka goes in January for the sums of money reported, we can then judge Megson on his transfer dealings.

I don't want to be a wet blanket and I hope ED & PG prove me wrong, but .....

..... if Anelka goes in January, I'll be surprised if Megson sees more than 20% of the money to spend on replacements.

Might be hard to tell though if we're not told the money involved.

can`t see it really mattering what megson gets to spend because most descent players won`t go too a club where the "fans" can`t be bothered going

Blackburn managed to find enough of them to win the Premier League title with an average crowd of 24,257 in a ground that held over 30,000.

but they were paying double the going rate at the time

If that is the case, then i concede that there is no chance of us doing that.

If we sell Anelka and do not get a replacement, proven goalscorer then we are fucked. We have just started to climb the table and things are looking up but this will end if we sell in January. We should agree a deal with Anelka and any club who wants him to go through at the end of the season. Say to him keep us up and he is that good that top clubs will still be sniffing round in the summer.

Our chairman's not exactly the soul of discretion is he?

january will be who is the most desparate to sign him

in the summer im sure he could have his pick of any club
