Motherwells captain collapsed and died after todays game.

Puts a 3-1 dicking at Sunderland into perspective.

They play less matches than previous generations, they are mothered by clubs.

I was thinking the same, and clubs claim to do regular health and fitness checks on players too.

Must have been horrible for his nephew who was on the pitch! But still, condolences to everybody connected to him.

So was I. I heard all players have full body health checks, espcially after the heart problems earlier in the year.

At least he was doing something he loved. I hope his short life had been a good one.

RIP, poor bloke.

Always think how bad I'd feel if it was to happen to the ref/ player of an opposing team I'd been throwing abuse at....

Actually, that's a good point - aside from the obvious condolences to his family (especially his poor team mate/relative) - there'll be some parents facing the unenviable task of explaining to their kids what it was they just saw happen at the game :-k

RIP fella.

Phil O'Donnell, Puerta, Foe, Miklos Feher... are the names of the famous players that died in the last couple of years, but there were a lot more in the other less known leagues.

IMO one of the main reasons are the medicines that the players take in this era of modern football

Interesting thought, he did have a lot of injury problems. What about those other players, did they spend a lot of time on the treatment table?
