Road Standards In Bolton

Featured Replies

I cannot believe the number of potholes and missing tarmac on our roads recently. Getting worse. Driving up Chorley New Road - its like the Dakar Rally - and as for Bromwich Street, half the road surface is missing.

Seems to be getting worse and worse everywhere I go.

Have I missed something? Have the council decided to spend elsewhere?

The Polish Swimathon?

Every time I go back Bolton looks more and more of a shithole.

which bit of chorley new road? they resurfaced big swathes of it not long ago?

I'll give you bromwich street that is a state, but it'll only get worse once the builders move in on the uni in summer.

Isn't the new thing, those speedometer things at the side of the road. They must have had a bit of cash left over and thought they would spend it on something worthwhile. Might be a good idea if they put them somewhere useful, like near schools or something.

they're movable and are put in locations where speed related accidents are high.

yet another flaw in the council is putting information out that explains what the feck they're doing and that it's not just thought up off the top of someones head.

any potholes on non main roads in bolton ring 01204 33 6600 and tell the bods in maintainance

There was a big section in the MEN about Bolton being a property hotspot.......what a crock of sh?t. That town centre looks like something you see on The Wire.

There's one good thing going for Bolton - Middlebrook :good:

if it's good enough for Colin Farrel it's good enough for me!

Bolton's shit now yes but give it 5 years and property prices will be daft especially in the centre.

Water gets into the subbase and roadbase, freezes, expands, pops the wearing course. Tis the time of year. Road quickly becomes goosed and popping a bit of blacktop in the hole is papering over the cracks which is why you see the same hole appearing again and again

as it happens I have a bit of tarmac left over from a job, I'll do your drive for you, 3 grand, cash. to be sure.

Spot on mr Smiffs but time after time the first budget to get money pilfered from it by councillors to achive spending cuts set by whitehall is that of highway maintainence!

Which is why I think we should re-lay every inch of highway in the universe from now until when I retire.

Not that I have a vested interest in such contracts of course.

:pardon:

I live facing that building, he owns it but doesn't live there. And I don't blame him, I know somone who's moved in and said the local prossie's take their clients in there and nail them on the roof as they don't lock the doors so anyone can get in/out :::::lol:::::

Give it 5 years and all the promises of new train stations, apartments. university buildings etc will be dead in the water. The so-called 'cultural quarter' and swimming pool have already been sunk and it was only last year that annoying Bolton Scene magazine was trying to say we're the f?cking new Manchester

Shit lying council

Sh?t ugly town

Great people living there....that sums up Bolton for me

the other bad road is Blenheim Road (the shorter bit between Long Lane and Bury Road) - feck me, I thought I was going to go careering into Bolty's homeland the other day!

University buildings already going up and starting in earnest in the summer

train station works due to start 2009/2010

Appartments, if you can see them being built already then you've obviously not been into bolton in the last 6 months i pass 3 walking to the car park

swimming pool yup the uni has pulled out but the council and the NHS are looking for alternative sites but land in the town centre is quite scarce.

As for the 'cultural quarter' last i heard (about a week after the government gave our money to london again) was it was still going ahead as they've got the money from elsewhere.

Smiley as i've said elsewhere after years of underfunding money is being spent on resurfacing but the main roads get it first, the full length of bury road is due for resurfacing next year.

You must actually believe what you read, pal. Half of those projects will be accompanied by some f?cking 'exclusive' BN new story sooner or later, saying why they had to be scrapped.

I've not been in Bolton town centre since I woke up there at 7.30 this morning :p
