There is clearly a department within Bolton Council that basically just changes perfectly good roads around simply to justify their own pathetic, civil service, existance.

 

The new junction onto St Peter's Way from Bury New Road was a total and utter waste of time and effort.

 

Changing the flow of traffic on St George's Street is clearly ridiculous, this means there needs to be lights on Kay St for people exiting St Peters, the obvious effect of this is more traffic jams on there. Total and utter fuckwitterery of the highest degree.

all that work is part of the town centres new set up hopefully once it's all finished it won't be an issue.

 

I quite like the new slip road it means i don't have to arse about with the queues at topp way or bradford street.

 

the desisions of what gets done in bolton are all agreed by councillors at about 3 differents stages.

 

such as;

There's a issue on street X highways planning want to traffic calm it - councillors get their say.

If they agree to that then the design is put together by the engineers then consultation gets sent out - councillors get their say at consultation.

After consultaion it is reported back to the councillors what the outcomes are of the consultion and it can be called in for more detailed scrutiny.

 

So when a councillors jumps on a band waggon protesting about scheme X after it's gone in they've no excuse really.

What you don't seem to get is that traffic is like electicity, it'll always go through the easiest route. You "calm" one part and the traffic simply takes another route, at no point does the amount of traffic reduce.

 

It's now ridiculously difficult to get off St Peter's onto Folds Road as not one but two extra sets of traffic lights have essentially killed that route, can't take Castle St due to the lights on Bury New caused by the silly new junction so the easiest route is the Topp Way/Turton St junction. The very junction they've spent millions relieving in the morning is actually worse in the evening. Whoever thought that up, is a fool, end of.

It's part of a much bigger scheme over the next few years to create an dual carriageway ring road around the centre (St Peters Way, Topp Way, Marsden Road, Moor Lane and Trinity Street), work starts on a new slip road off of Topp Way in a few months.

 

As i've said before it'll all be shit traffic wise in the town centre for the next few years as pretty much all of the town centre is being redeveloped or rebuilt.

Around the corner from our offices in Radcliffe, just before we wenty to Madrid, one of the water mains sprung a leak, leading to a considerqble amount of water coming up into the road, then down the hill. The leak wasn't fixed, and with a few frrezing nights and heavy traffic, the road surface quickly broke up. Notices tonight taht the potholes had been filled in, however the leak still hasnt been fixed, how long before the road breaks up again, 5 days ?

depends on how good a job of filling in the potholes they made.

 

United Utilities are a right bag of shite when it comes to repairing their pipes, it really makes no sense to repair the road til they've fixed the pipe.

Advanced warning that Leigh Load will be shut for about 6 weeks over the summer holidays between Hartford Road and Washacre so British Gas can fix the mess they made last time they were there.

No. Think they may have resurfaced outside the former St Osmonds school.

The stretch from there to Bury Rd, in front of the old Police station - that part is totally fcked.

this does happen in some places, you have to pay for a road closure and permission to alter the road layout on urban roads, but its up to the relevant highways authority and they are all different, and you tell them how long its going to take and only get fines if you run over, whereas on the motorway they tell you when you have to be done and dusted so to speak. all councils are different but in my experience in dealing with them all over the north, Newcastle and Liverpool are the worst to deal with but the best for their residents as they insist on proper planning etc, but Bolton and wigan couldnt give a f*ck really all it takes is a phone call, tell em what you doing and they say "reet go ahead", especially if its gas or water.
