The Biggest Mistake Of This Season

IMO - Sacking Sammy Lee.

Lee was a visionary, look at the evidence.

1. Our best performance of the season, if not the last two seasons was Chelsea at home, at least some proper football was played.

2. He had the foresight to drop Nolan for that game, who's form was shocking.

3. He dropped Speed for that game who's form was shocking.

4. He was going to get rid of Campo who has recently become the biggest liability on the pitch.

Maybe LSL could see what was coming.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying Sammy Lee was the saviour.

Yes he was a panic appointment and PG is solely to blame for making it. But make it he did, and the little fella should have been given more time. That was the biggest mistake. If things were still shyte at Xmas, fair enough, get rid. But a lot of people could see things were improving and the dead wood and moaners were being dropped or flogged. Kevin Nolan and Gary Speed deserved to be dropped before that Chelsea match - FACT. Some would say their performances were poor. Some would say Nolan was being played out of position. Maybe Nolan was being played out of position, but the point is he couldn't adjust, therefore time to get rid. Speed's legs slowed down considerably - time to get rid. Campo has had a desperately bad season - it was time to get rid (I couldn't see that at the time, but Sammy Lee obviously could).

The sad fact is, the episode with Nolan and Speed and the poor form and inclusion in the team of others (Campo and Davies), means that the players actually run BWFC, not Gartside or Eddie Davies or Lee or Megson or Me or You. And that power in the dressing room is the reason that Graeme Souness should have been given the job after Lee's sacking - cue the abuse.

Any coincidence that we played better again on saturday without Nolan ?

IMO one man is to blame for all this and it is Gartside.

It started with him not giving FSA financial support in January when we went to Liverpool on New Years Day 3rd in the table.

His biggest mistake though came about having given Sammy Lee his word on attracting him to The Reebok from the FA that when FSA left Bolton (Gartside thinking this would be when he retired after 10 years) he would be manager.

With just 2 weeks of the season to go, Gartside should have took the advise of all the football people he knows and waited to the summer. The quality of applicants he would have received for a job at club with UEFA Cup football for the 2nd time in 3 seasons and 4 consecutive top 8 finishes would / could have been impressive.

Instead the proper recruitment process took place 3 months into the start of the new season with us bottom of the table.

Just because LSL's last game was Chelsea at home, and it was a decent performance, doesn't prove he was getting things together such that we would have finished the season safe from relegation. After Newcastle at home, all home games were decent performances; all away performances were poor. He'd gathered 5 points from 10 games and there were no signs that this rate of return would improve - despite promising home performances. Points mean safety; nice performances mean ... well, entertainment.

Sorry, Yatesy. That was no 'proper recruitment process' either.

Sorry, you are right.

I forgot that Megson's 'friend' was the agent employed by Gartside to find us a new manager.

Another nail in the coffin of blame in the direction of Phil Gartside.

Part in jest, but part serious. At least we haven't got this guy.

This guy is an absolute tvvat. A self publicity stunt with no thought or concerns whatsover about Mansfield - Harchester United :nea:

For all Gartsides faults, I do honestly believe he is a passionate fan of the club and his decisions are with the clubs best interests at heart. =@

I challenge anyone to defend Gartside's choice of agent to assist in the recruitment of a new manager.

Even Sourness saw through it and knew it was a done deal for Megson.

Any coincidence that we played better again on saturday without Nolan ?

And again lost without him

First the ground move. Then the badge. Then the club colours. It's only a matter of time...

Agreed completely

He didnt give Allardyce the money he wanted which IMO led to him leaving. When the manager is dispondant it rubs off on the players, what more could he have done for this club and when he asked for something in return he got told to get fooked.

He appointed Sammy Lee - Total cock up. Now we know why no one else took a gamble on him being a manager

When he appointed Megson i remember forest and West Brom fans on the radio phone in saying all he will do is send you down and have the dressing room in uproar. Exactly what has happended here.

Dont give me all this "which other manager wanted to come to little old Bolton then" shite. We qualified for Europe which is an attraction and at the end of the day it's Gartsides job to find the right man.

GARTSIDE OUT

And take Megson with you

Do you really think it was Garty stopping the flow of money? Gartside doesn't have any (well much) money personally. He's the chairman, not a benefactor.

Was Fast Eddie Davies writing blank cheques and Garty was binning them, rather than passing them onto Fat Sam?

Anyone who believes Garty is soley to blame needs to get back to flipping burgers and salting the fries.

Fast Eddie Davies

Can people stop calling him that, please. I see it and can't stop myself singing "ooh yeh. ooh yeh!" I look silly doing that at my desk.

I'm just saying like.

OK Then Gartside/Eddie Davies whoever. It's them tossers in the directors boxes in general then, they're to blame

for little sam read colin todd, great free flowing passing football and no points.

that is not the way to success.

now selling your best player when you have no-one to replace him.

that is ABSOLUTELY ragging STUPID

you can`t make new players sign for you but you can stop contracted players leaving.

`heres the deal nic. we`re up sheisse strasse mit nicht eine paddle and you aint going anywhere til summer. you signed a new deal and we expect you to honour it. do what you want in june but you`re staying here. OK?`

thats all it would have took

(`ragging` bah!! )

Fook me. The side I watched who outclassed EVERYONE and scored 100 goals and got 98 points were not a success.

What's your ragging definition of success?

Winning the treble, scoring 150 goals and remaining unbeaten all season?

Jesus christ. :nea:

Different division. Surely you can see the difference and he did bugger all in the Prem.

Todd would have kept us up were it not for Everton and Gaetano Friggin Gillanza

I thought Little Sam had the right kind of idea....and we did play some decent football....we lost v Everton thanks to Alonso 'doing a Steinsson' in the last minute and not staying on't post <_<

We've lost so many b?stard points this season to f?cking defensive errors....that's what's cost us a place in the PL

I can understand LSL wanting to implement a new style, a new formation and do it with new players (although bringing in 3 wingers and playing none of them is a bit of a mystery), but Why do it all at once ?

Either introduce change slowly to give the players, who have been playing the exact same style & formation for 5 years, time to adjust or play the effective way that everyone new until we were mid-table and not in any significant danger of being dragged into a relegation battle before tinkering.

He tried too much too soon and it didn't work, he then didn't know how to change. IMO the sign of a good manager is one who can effectively alter things when its all going base over apex.
