I'm In A Nostalgic Mood Today!

When I were a kid I used to like nowt better than a good game of kick out ball, or cocky rusty, or making mud pies, or puttin dog shit through letter boxes.

Where did the good old days go to!

Dogs can't just shit randomly in the street these days though can they? When was the last time anyone stepped in dog shit?

It used to make me snigger when I saw folk do that. Happen I'm immature.

dogshit in brown paper bags were best, set fire to it on a doorstep, knock on nthe door and laugh your head off as they stamp the fire out

Someone used to put dogshit inside a toilet roll, close one end and put it under the toilet seat at school. The idea was that when someone sat on the seat,it would squeeze out and drop on their trousers.

who?

There were rumours about who it was but he was never discovered.

For a while the school prefects had to go lifting up toilet seats looking for dogshit as part of their duties which was amusing.

Not you, then?

Piggy

(not you, the game)

Some of the games we used to play were British bulldog, hide and seek, kick ball hide and kerby.

We used to play 'blocky', similar to hide and seek but instead of being merely found you had get to 'base' before the seeker did.

Forgot the age old classic, 'catch a boy, kiss a boy,' which I suspect the majority of you on here also played.

Anyone for Headers????

I remember heads and 'v's, along with cries of "Last attack"

Two balls!

Three balls if you were good at it!

Piggy

(not you, the game)

Once won the South Turton Piggy Championship single handedly: I had turned up to watch; think I was about 10 or 11. The Bradshaw team turned up a player short and I volunteered. Anyway, the team put me in for last piggy hoping that it'd be over with by then anyway. Well it wasn't! By the time it got to me and the opposition's last player, a 20+ year old lad, there was 2 points in it in their favour.

Up steps the young MickyD to the block. Places his pig on the house brick and hits the end of the piggy with the stick. All went eerily quiet; you could hear a butterfly pissing on a rose bush two hundred yards away. Anyway, piggy spins upwards in slow motion and was struck with as much might as I could muster. I gave the lad 8 to reach the pig. He took 9.

The silence was broken with a deafening roar as the capacity crowd took young MickyD on their shoulders and sang For He's a Jolly Good Fellow.

The bit about Jolly Good Fellows and deafening roars is artistic license but the rest, I kid ye not, is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

was known as Buzz-Off round our way.

Used to throw rose buds at windows. we got good at it; a few would throw one or two and more of us hung back and lobbed handfuls into the house as the house holder opened the door. Worked great until the bastard from Bolton Harriers gave chase and caught me. Took me home to my old fella who severely bollocked me!

cocky rusty and two balls, was my fave two games with my schoolfriends in the sixties.
