Mmmmm I was thinking the same last night driving home...

 

Radio Manchester interviewed the owner of CopyPlan on the news, he also owns the building.

 

He reckons the other users of the building provide him with ?100,000 of rental income a year. He went on to add that all his records were destroyed in the fire as they are all kept in his office in the said building

 

From the Manchester Evening News yesterday:

Manchester Group Commander Graham Brennan, of Greater Manchester County Fire Service, said today "...An investigation is underway as to the cause. There is a suggestion that some of the windows were broken.... The police are having some difficulty tracing key holders."

why also, would any business only keep one copy of records? - surely they would have "back up" data that was removed each evening or each "month end" or at the very least, backed up on a remote server.

Some insurance companies won't pay out if you haven't got a sufficient disaster plan in operation. Sounds like Mr. Copyplan hasn't got one of those.

no, but the companies who do lease off him should have records somewhere, showing how much rent they pay - one would expect any insurance company would check this out

The companies who lease off him will be very happy to provide "evidence" that their rent is much higher than it really is.

Presumably though, when their bank accounts and tax returns from the last 12-18 months are examined though, then any kind of fraud would easily come to light. If somebody is looking to claim anything up to ?100K, you can guarantee that the insurance company would want a damn site more proof that "word of mouth". If vst sums of money like that are floating around, then they would/should have gone trhough some financail institution.............plus would he not have had to declare that kind of income to the taxman, so surely they would have some kind of record of it
