Spot on. We desparately need someone who can put their foot on the ball and put through a few good passes. We struggled last season in this department but now Megson has got rid of the few ball players we had, we only have ball winners (Muamba, McCann) or players who play the ball sideways (J. O'Brien) . How are we ever going to create a chance, maybe its even more long ball stuff with Nolan feeding off the knock downs from Elmander & Davies.

Diouf: why I had to go

Trevor Baxter

31/ 7/2008

FORMER Bolton favourite El Hadji Diouf has revealed the reasons behind his move to Sunderland.

Diouf spoke of his desire for a new challenge at the end of last season but few expected him to sign a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

"When I went to Bolton people asked me why, but we finished sixth and qualified for Europe," said the Senegal international.

"I want to do the same with Sunderland. Why not aim for the UEFA Cup next season?

"I'm very happy to be at Sunderland and I think it's a club that should demand respect. It is moving forward to bigger things."

Despite his bad boy persona, Diouf stayed clear of controversy in his last season at the Reebok in spite of collecting 16 yellow cards.

"I can't wait for my Sunderland career to get going," he said. "I'm happy to play for a man like Roy Keane."

"I like this type of man. He's a big character and I know he wants to do something big at Sunderland.

"I remember playing against him in the League Cup final at Cardiff.

His requirement to be playing in the Champions League has been replaced with a forlorn hope of qualifying for the UEFA Cup.

He has a better memory than I would give him credit for though, I assume he recalls playing against Keane in the 2003 final?

He forgot to say "on his Xbox"

He is right though - they did play each other, Liverpool won 2-0

Still doesn't say why he HAD to go, just what he wants to do now he's there.

What he should have said was ''I had to go because I've made a right tit of myself and Sunderland were the first club to put an offer in''

On first read I thought Diouf was talking about our Carling Cup final at Cardiff. I decided that surely he aint that daft to think Keane played for 'Boro

I don't know much about this Muamba, but isn't that what he's been brought in to do? - regarding a suitable back-up, I think we do need another holding midfielder, as IMO J'OB is a long way from being a Premier League player, and I'm not always convinced by McCann, as he is a bit too slow these days. Unless the plan is that we keep hold of the ball high up the pitch, by lumping it to Elmander and Davies for them to hold, and then wait for the oncoming rush of free scoring midfielders.

Oncoming rush ? As in support with pace ??

FFS, man, you must be more than 'mellow' !

<_<

Sunderland new boy El Hadji Diouf reckons he is just like his new gaffer: "Everybody knows Roy Keane as a temperamental man and they know me like that as well," said the Senegalese. (Daily Mail)

I see the changing room at the stadium of light being lit up with some tasty discussions over coming weeks. (Took me ages to think that one up so early in the morning)

he misses playing for a big character manager.

he misses playing for a big character manager.

Surely, based on your previous posts, you aren't having a dig at our manager.

Reckons he turned down offers from Pompey and PSG.

Course he did, and Real Madrid have been on the phone to me all morning asking if i'll replace Robinho...

do you actually mean this or are you just fishing for attention now?

Are you a Wigan fan? <_<
