Owen Coyle, not foreign ( well scottish) Played for us in the 90's, and was Gartsides 2nd choice before he appointed Mugson, ticks all the boxes.

Thats were my money will be going anyway!!

How do you know he was 2nd choice? I wasn't aware he was even on the shortlist.

I don't think anybody knows who was 2nd or 3rd choice, it's just people guessing

We do know Souness was interviewed though.

from the times

Coyle was on a shortlist of five at Burnley but Brendan Flood, the club?s operations director and major benefactor, said that the telephone call with McLeish and the revelation that Bolton Wanderers ? where Coyle once played ? had the Glaswegian on their own list before choosing Gary Megson, sealed the appointment.

?I said we needed one or two more references, so he gave me Alex McLeish,? Flood said. ?Alex took the time out last Friday to tell me what a great guy Owen is and that he?s going to be a Premiership manager one day. This was the night before Scotland played Italy and that spoke volumes for me. Phil Gartside [the Bolton chairman] also said that Owen came into their thinking before Gary Megson was appointed. He?s already had three job offers from SPL clubs and is a natural winner, as he proved by beating Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox last season in the CIS Cup.?

Right I'm sold. Get him in. Owen Coyle, Owen Coyle, Owen Owen Coyle...

My money is on Steve Wigley!!!!

the normal 'cheaper' option that the board like to make

My money is on nothing happening and Megson taking us down.

That will be the biggest mistake ever, the man may be a good coach, but he is silent with no personality, to me looks like he just wants to be in the background, there is no way he could cope with a mamagerial position at any club, just not got the where withall.

My money is on nothing happening and Megson taking us down.

Unfortunately i now feel the same. Tis a depressing time

Cant wait for the market to open, always a good money spinner because some of the names that get linked with us are laughable

Alan cork! I'd rather keep Megson.

Lets hope they both go soon!

Exactly, as anybody who knows football, would understand this appointment

Jimmy Phillips is your man!

Megson is favourite for the next Prem manager to go at 7/4. Worth a punt?

I wasn't aware there was ANY shortlist.

From what I remember we were after Megson, Souness, Bruce and Coleman.

Megson is favourite for the next Prem manager to go at 7/4. Worth a punt?

I would have thought so, if we lose against City I would be very suprised if he didn't go early next week

Thanks, maybe that's the case.

Maybe what I meant though is I don't believe Gartside had any intention of appointing anyone other than Megson. A shortlist on paper, to meet the proprieties, but not in reality.

I'm just cynical that way.

My money is on nothing happening and Megson taking us down.

I'm with you Happy.

For Megson to go, Gartside has to admit he's been wrong twice in a row and aologise to the fans for his daft comment last time. Or resign himself. Doesn't seem likely to me, but then I'm not a betting man.

I wonder what Eddie Davies's views are on the sad state of gartsides managerial appointments, wouldnt surprise me if he potted gartside!!
