please point out the disadvantage, i dont see one

I have already done so. Lack of options. Let's agree to disagree on this one. I note you edited a post about we should have had Sissons instead of Riga well we didn't have that option. Whether you meant that in jest I do not know.

Unless Megson is trying to make a statement that we need more money for signings like allardyce did when he named that keeper as an outfield player a few years back.

As a fan who was brought up with only one sub, 4 is a luxury!

I bet their is a few that post on here that can remember the time when you did not even have the one

Yes, I'm one of those.

Any player who got injured back then used to more or less stand in the centre circle area until the match ended.

If I remember correctly subs were first used in international matches for a while before the rules changed to allow clubs to use them too.

Oh, and the first ever league substitution in this country happened at Burnden -

On August 21, 1965, Keith Peacock of Charlton Athletic became the first substitute used in the Football League when he replaced injured goalkeeper Mike Rose eleven minutes into their away match against Bolton Wanderers

and my old man tells me the first ever sub to come on in the english game was peacock (gavin's dad) for Charlton, against us

something like that

As homer has said, theres no point shoving players who the coaching staff know aren't ready on the bench. It doesn't give us options because they aren't good enough at the minute. I'm sure it would be a nice day out for them, but we're a football club, not Alton Towers. They were never going to come on so there was no point.

It wasn't as if James Beattie got injured for Everton one week and Moyes went 'Ahh bollocks, shove that ugly pussy on then' and then it turned out he was a world class footballer in waiting. They knew he was ready and good enough when they put him on the field.

If we'd shoved a load of kids on today and got dicked 8-0 it could've ended careers.

Have I missed something ?

Where was Smolarek ?

And why not Harsanyi on the bench - if he wasn't ready for that today, why keep him ? Same for Sinclair & Sissons - they've been 'on the fringe' for a while now. Unless they're all injured. Any clarification from anybody ?

And maybe Dzemaili shouldn't be on loan at Torino since we started the season so short of midfielders.

It's a difficult league without carrying handicaps.

Having said all that, 0-1 at the Emirates is a tremendous result in the circumstances - even if it was a defensive fight.

No points, so how was it a tremedous result

mccanns broken a toe

not a great day on the injury front

cant believe some people are sticking up for megson on this 1. if some people off hear caught him bumming there Miss's they would still stick up for him.

are you tell me that we dont have 3 kids who could sit on the bench? no? so are you saying that no one in the academy is good enough to make the first team squad in the future

well whats the point in even having 1 never mind a reserves team

if the reserves aren't there to step into the first team when there are injuries etc, what are they for?

Sorry, Ginge, strange decision

How many sub can you us? 3 we had 4 on the bench that leave 1 spare what the point of having another 3 if they are not good enough to get on the pitch, put them on the bench so they can warm a seat with their backsides, what would be the point?

How do you know in advance the positions that you might want/have to replace?

I don't know the facts but before we say things like 'why didn't 3 kids sit on the bench, etc' - do we even know if the kids had been taken down to London. If they aren't there they can't be named as subs can they?

Maybe Hunt, Smolarek and Cahill were the three missing players who would have been in the team or on the bench - Hunt maybe was going to start at got injured in the warm up, Smolarek was down as a sub but took ill before kick off and Cahill hoping that his injury would be ok at kick off time to be at least be named on the bench.

As I say I don't know - but I'm guessing that most don't know if the youngsters were at the Emirates either?

There some thick fuckers on here.

If they are not good enough it does not matter

They didnt take anyone else down. The team was picked yesterday, it was the same team that played today (With just 4 subs)

I may be barking up the wrong tree here but one or two injuries to first team players; when did they fail the fitness test? If it was just before the game then where would he have got the 4 bench warmers from?

apparently we have only 18 professionals (GM said today)

What happened to that super duper 16 year old?

Which one? Javlin Campbell?
