A Very Boring Season

Featured Replies

I want to win first and to be entertained second, I will take the first without the second anytime but will not take the second without the the first.

So its the tribalism first and the game second for you, just so happens the town team plays football it could have been rugby league, ice hockey or anything else played in that stadium as long as they were called bolton and all your mates went?

Simply cant understand this. Perhaps its because I once played football for a few years albeit at a minor level.

It isn't in a footballers job description to provide entertainment, or for a manager to employ as exciting a style as possible.

In one sentence you encapsulate all thats wrong with the beautiful game :(

I played has well, and first and formost I wanted to win and I really could not give too fucks how we did it as long as we won.

Only in certain peoples' heads. It's them that have a distorted idea of the sport, not me. Just because it's popular doesn't mean the sport should morph into something other than 11 men trying to kick a ball in a net, and another 11 men trying to stop them.

Some people talk about the "lack of entertainment" as if they'd welcome the introduction of "MULTI-BALL!" from that Budweiser advert a couple of years back.

I think I understand what's being said here. If getting 40 points per season and survival is all that matters, then entertainment does count for nothing, just a slow steady accumulation of points will suffice.

But you could get the same feeling of relief/satisfaction just by watching MOTD or checking the league table in the Sundays. What's the incentive to actually pay your money and go? There has to be an element of entertainment and this season there has been precious little for home or away fans. We have become just predictable. Most fans now accept we will do little against the top teams and cup progress seems long gone. We manage just enough wins to get by, nothing more.

I dont criticise those who say enough's enough or applaud those who will carry on regardless. Everyone makes their own decision. I've chosen to pick and choose next season, but will still be anxious every Saturday wondering how we're doing. I daresay if the stuff on offer does get better then I'll probably end up being a full time supporter again.

under big sam the majority put up with the shite football (not all di TBH) because we were top 6 challenging the big boys, now the results aren't so good, the poor football isn't appreciated as much.

that said we passed the ball around a bit between defence and midfield on saturday trying to find an opening, the groans started so Cahill hoofed it to no one

For me the quality of football in a game does not necessarily dictate whether a game is an entertaining one, but rather the incidents which take place within the game. There have been a lot of home games this season that have simply lacked any real incident!

Perhaps again I have rose tinted glasses as to BSA's tenure. I remember some very good games of football in the first 3 games of the premier. What about the quality of the games against man u, Leic and Ipswich in the first season? As lodge white said its not necessarily the quality of players or technical possession, its the amount of incidents and chances that seem to have disappeared.

We also saw some great games in the promotion season.

I suppose its about what rocks your boat, if winning is everything then ok, just isnt for me anymore.
