I dont think most people expected that when he took over in the poor position they were in. There were some decent players (apart from Diouf, Anelka, Nolan, who were crap of course!) , but now the squad is threadbare and lacking quality. Survival now is the main aim.

Even though I have never been a member, the WA BWFC Downunder Supporters Club have me on their mailing list for events and a match report they get from some bloke called Brian who attends every game. I have never even bothered to look at the match reports until yesterday (must have been quiet at work ). You guessed it - utterly and almost irrationally anti Megson.

 

Checked a few other WABWFCDUSC messages and their chosen term is 'Smegson'.

 

Is WWays the only place where not everyone is so anti Megson that they are consumed with it above all other things?

Unfortunately I think it is. And it seems not only consumed by it but completely irrational and unrealistic to boot as well. So much so that I find myself backing and supporting him to the extreme in many a conversation because there is so much unecessary anti-feeling towards him.

You see, Desperado I think that's what I do. I don't like his style of football and he's not exactly enigmatic is he BUT for goodness sake, he's not a child killer or a terrorist so why people insist on being so venomous and, as you say, irrational, in their hatred of him I feel I must step in and say 'out of order, son' with some of the comments & the obsession they have with hating him. Next thing is, 'oh you're a Megson love'. Noooooooooooooo, you fuckwits, I just don't think everything that's wrong with modern football and the economy is down to him!

Yet we still managed to be 4th place in March of Sams last season. And in the end we got a place in Europe. So our squad must have been decent.

I ain't a big fan of Megson but whilst he is the manager of our great club, I find myself supporting him more than I should to counter the negative comments that are unjustly thrown his way.

 

Big Sam left an aging squad, Sammy Lee saw this but did too much in one summer leaving Megson with the after thoughts of the two managers to sort out - when taking over the club in mid-season with us bottom of the league.

 

They (Megson and his coaches) have done a great job to keep us up again. He and Evans fully acknowledge that the performances over the last month or more have not been good enough. Let them do a proper rebuilding job this summer.

 

As I have said, he has added 2 or 3 quality players (or potentially so in the case of Elmander ) each transfer window. Due to the thin squad he has also had to get in some average players on loan to bolster numbers. Another 3 quality additions this summer plus some squad fillers will surely see an improvement to team for next season.

You and me both mate. I didn't want him here before he was appointed and still have doubts but the poor sod has done a decent job and yet is exposed to some of the most mindless and bitter vitriol I have ever witnessed to someone who is 'on our side'.

 

I really hope he achieves something to make them eat their words.
