to be honest cant see whats great about him

i won't mind us signing decent players for relatively low fees if it means megson can use the bulk of his transfer kitty to spend on 3 or 4 really good players. players like sean davis and paul robinson are decent enough with prem experience. robbo has got leadership skills as well and will provide decent backup for samuel. if megson can get a really quality attacking midfielder, right winger, striker and centre-back to complement cahill then we will have the basis of a good squad for next season

Bolton Wanderers have signed Paul Robinson from West Bromwich Albion.

 

The left-back is reunited with manager Gary Megson after swapping the Hawthorns for the Reebok.

 

The defender has put pen-to-paper on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

 

Commenting on the club's second signing of the summer, the manager said: "He's got a great deal of Premier League experience and is the type of player Wanderers supporters will like. He has a wholehearted approach to the game, is desperate to win and will be good in the dressing room.

 

"I signed Robbo for West Brom from Watford a good few years ago and I know him really well. He'll bring some competition down the left and I am delighted that we've managed to get him in."

 

Since making his Football League debut in 1996, Robinson has since gone on to accumulate 490 first-class appearances with both Watford and West Bromwich Albion.

 

In 2008 he was recognised for his consistent displays in the Baggies' successful league winning season by earning a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year, and he followed-up this achievement by playing in 35 Barclays Premier League matches last season.

 

Robinson, who will link up with his new team-mates in Austria this afternoon, is joined at Bolton by fellow new signing Sean Davis, who completed his transfer from Portsmouth on July 1.

We,ve got the squad that couldnt fill the bench at the Emirates, less 6 released players plus a freebie and a loanee.

 

Short of a creative, goal scoring midfielder, a right mid, a partner for Cahill at CB and someone who can stick it in the net. Other than that, the squad's OK.

Strange one that, glad were not shelling out 1.5 million for him as was rumoured,hopefully free more money up for players who will go straight into the first 11.

We can't do it in one go, this is now Megson's fourth transfer window.

 

The football ain't pretty - I don't think anyone saying it is - but it as been effective.

 

We are ?53.5 million in debt, had ?26 million of loans to pay back within the last 12 months, owners personal wealth dropped by ?33 million in the credit crunch, finished above Sunderland who spent close on ?100 million on players, Newcastle - who have players without break clauses because they never even considered they might be relegated, and Boro , where Steve Gibbson as sunk at least ?80 million of his own cash into the team.

 

We can't compete in transfers, wages, we aren't an attractive club to play for, have a split fan base, falling attendance (thus less revenue) - yet we still - on paper - overachieved once again.

 

I think considering all this, Megson and the team are doing well - very well in fact - but apparently this is still not good enough for you.

I wasn't making it into a Megson thing, you brought that up. My opinion and others on here is that there are still key positions which need improving or we are in again for a long, painfull struggle where any nice ideas of entertaining football will soon be binned.

 

Just applying for any vacancies in our European scouting network. Sounds a right bobbies job. Nice hotels, bit of sunshine, footy on the X's, make a few recommendations that get rejected then back to the bar again.

I agree with what you say, things do look worrying - but we were favourites to go down when Megson took over from Lee two seasons back and we were one of the bookies favourites to go down last season also.

 

I don't doubt it will be a long hard struggle, I don't doubt the standard of football won't improve much - but what realistically can be done about it?

 

We simply ain't got the money to buy quality players to ensure a season pushing for a European place, no one seems to be queuing up to buy the club from Eddie Davies, so Premiership survival seems to be the most logical objective open to us again.

 

Seems to me then that that is why we need to increase our squad size in terms of relatively cheap, experienced Premiership pro's, who have been there are done that, so that what little money we have (in Premier league terms) is invested in improving the team in some / all of the areas you have mentioned previously.

 

Sean Davis and Paul Robinson's signings may not exactly get the fans excited but these are some of the pieces of the jigsaw that are needed to ensure continual strengthening of the squad, whilst hopefully we await one or more key signings in much more crucial positions.

 

To be honest, I would have thought you would have known about all this all already.

agree we need a back up left back but for 1.5 million I would have told West brom where to go, surely there is some up and coming promising left backs down the leagues.
