Millwall '77

The BBC has just put up some new 'old' footage of Millwall in '77 from Panorama, you can check it out here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/front_pa...000/8298751.stm

- you might have seen some of it before, but apparently this is the best quality version around. Worth it just to check out/laugh at the clobber and the 'northerner' comments.

remember bolton going to shrewsbury with surgical masks and gounes on

Remember them coming in the lever end about that time, they were game, but no match for the lever enders who outnumbered them considerably and soon sent them packing.

In this documentary while travelling to an away match on a coach did they ask this Millwall lot who they feared most and they basically said no one but Bolton are game? Urban myth or fact?

Don't know about Shrewsbury away, but do remember having them at Cardiff

It was deffo Shrewsbury, wore mine down the pit the following week, and all the old miners wanted one.

According to a mate of mine who watched it when he was younger, he said when panorama asked them who the hardest fans they had come up against they replied "everyone thinks it's Man Utd and it probably is but that's only because of the number of them,it's probably Bolton who are the hardest set of supporters we've come up against" (it was along those lines anyway)

It would be interesting to watch the whole of the programme...

I have a good mate down here who was a Treatment lad. Great respect for Bolton fans (& Wood St bloody Social Club!) saying they always had there hands full with us. Describes us as 'passionate' and Burnden being a threatening place.

He goes on about PNE of all places. Reckons they got a real slap up there.

You could be right, clips have been all over, but this is supposedly one of the longer clips out there. At least, that's what I got told.

Re the 'hardest' quote mentioned, I'll ask around - I know the bloke who put the clip on the BBC site and who sorts out all the archives, so he's probably got the full thing knocking about, might be able to get it online.

I've got the "Hooligan" DVD. I'll watch it this avo and let you know.

The dvd I've just watched is the ICF of Wet Spam. No mention of Bwfc at all. Did show a ruck with the scum though.

As an aside there was some quality haircuts - side parting with a perm on the back :good:

The sights at 2:09 do take you back to the 70s, it has to be said :pardon:

Yer right mate. Have me wires crossed. I have that Millwall one somewhere though. Might have been a Panorama episode or summat but I definitely have it. Remember Harry the Dog being interviewed on a coach.

Bolty...that "Arry the Bow Wow" once stuffed a cigar in my face in The Supporters Club, I wouldn't have been too bothered but he left a hole in my first full beard...he soon found out how steep those steps were when 4 handy Farnworth lads jumped him coming out of the toilets !!!!

about 3 weeks later I went to see Diana Ross at The London Palladium, had to get a ticket from a tout, I was styling in them days in my new BWFC embroided blue jumper turned out he was the ticket tout saw my jumper and said " we had a fackin great time at Bolton" he didn't recognise me at all...until I mentioned that I saw him getting kicked down the stairs....he wore it as a badge of honour.....went for a bevvy with him, turned out not a bad guy, if I remember right I think he was a cabby when he wasn't causing mayhem

Aye, S, my ex Treatment mate down here knows him and reckons he's a reet good lad really. Funny thing is, quietly, amidst all this 'northern monkey' drivel they spout, they realise that their urban decay surroundings and working class lifestyle has far more in common with us than the chardonnay set which surrounds them.

Me mate always spouts on about Wood St Social Club like it's some legendary venue or summat. They used to make a bee line for it and loved the bloody place (work that one out!).

Have to say though, those I have met away from football are salt of the earth types. The bloke who has become a great mate down here would give you his last penny and was skriking like a schoolgirl at the closing scene of 'Sunshine'.

Im sure that arry the dog died in a car crash a few year back?....

He did die a while back, but related to alcoholism.

A real pity he is still not part of the gene pool......

Bolty - that video you're thinking of where they're interviwed on a coach is definetely the Panorama one you mentioned (the full version)

I think it's on YouTube in it's entirety, or at least it used to be.
