Windows 7

Cant believe how quick it is, my son just downloaded it for me tonight and it knocks vista to bits. Been plagued to buggery with a slow computer.

Vista is ok on this PC, not sure about making the jump.

This kids still on XP.

In the process of doing a self-build, so I think I'll go for the update.

Looks good imo

I'm moving onto W7 this week too.

I'm currently on Safestyle Windows

As I have two PCs I bought one, I got one free

Bear in mind that whenever you do a clean install, regardless of the OS, it's going to run quicker.

W7 at home on 2 pcs now, seem much faster than vista and more user friendly for the missus.

still in testing at work, seems far more compatible with other software than vista ever was.

thumbs up from me thus far.

did my last one 5 years back and it might be time to do another

Will it work on my old XP PC (in terms of drivers etc.), 5 year old 3.06Ghz P4 Hyperthread?

Upgrade Advisor here:

Upgrade Advisor

things like Aero themes may not,but that doesn't matter, but generally it doesn't hog anything like as much resource so should be Ok

For those who've gone from Vista to W7: (Bigtoe need not reply!)

Have you done a full install or just clicked "upgrade" ?

i'd NEVER upgrade.

why?

just because...

How very informative.

Thank you.

amd is the way to go, 2 cores would suffice, 4 is pointless unless your gonna be mass encoding or extreme gaming. phenom is the newest faster, cooler core.

any 790gx board with onboard graphic would suffice (hardly gonna be playing top spec games) and currnelty the best onboard video money can buy

1tb drives are fuck all these days, why settle for any less, for not much less cash.

blu-ray is the future so may as well get one if you plan to watch/rip movies, other dvd rw is fine, or both

which ever case you think looks prettiest,

if you want a quiet pc, get a case with no psu then add your own

and a big fuck off quality monitor

id go with:

AMD have been miles behind Intel of late, which isn't a surprise given Intel's R&D budget is massively bigger.

I have run the Upgrade Advisor, and it says i must un-install my Kaspersky antivirus and firewall. Is this just to allow the install of W7 or are they incompatible all together?

Also, i hav read that W7 doesn't comes with an internet browser, such as Internet Explorer, is this true?

i wouldnt say miles, indeed the new intel i7 cores are superb, but the prices put them out of the reach of most.

if you can splash the cash then get an i7, if you cant but still want intel then Q6600 is the way to go imo.

i alway do intel for work, amd for home.

Cheers HJ, it was reported that due to European anti-competion laws, W7 wasnt going to shipped with a browser, but it looks like common sense has prevailed.

I was told to uninstall Kaspersky aswell so I emailed them before upgrading Windows and they told me to download the latest version (2010). Just enter the same license key and it should work fine.

Cheers Manny, only thing is, i have lost my license key. Good job its only ?15 or so from Scan.

Right, this old thing will run it but not Aero which is fair enough.

What's the cheapest way to get hold of it? Legally, before Dodgy Baz jumps in!

i just paid ?78 for home premium 64bit from ebuyer.

no need for ultimate really.
