Bonfire Night seems to have somehow transgressed from the splendid celebration of the ritual burning of a traitorous Catholic into some or other excuse for anti-social behaviour!

I know what you mean, but H & S regulations (which haven't changed regarding bonfires since I was a lad as far as I'm aware) are there to protect idiots basically. Any organisation that used to have bonfires but no longer do so because of 'elf and safety issues' are either a) using it as an excuse, or B) are that incompetent that they probably shouldn't be allowed to have one.

A risk assessment for a public bonfire would go something like this:

1) What is the hazard - a big fuck off bonfire.

2) What is the risk - we put it too close to a building, or allow people to get too close to it, both of which may cause harm/damage.

3) What is the control measure - Don't put the fire too close to a building, and don't let unauthorised persons near it.

Not fucking difficult.

Don't blame H & S legislation for spoiling fun, blame incompetent morons and ambulance chasing lawyers.

Hey, Chief

Only H&S to blame for this, surely?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...fety-fears.html

surely it's not H&S but pure stupidity to blame for that

The prime qualification to be a H&S official.

Swan on Totty Road is normally a good one.

If you can hang on to Saturday, get along to our eldest's cubs & scouts bash in Greenmount - always a good 'un.

where abouts?

we're looking for somewhere to take the friends nipper

Health and Safety doesn't apply here!

In fact, as they're both filmed on location on the Indian sub-Continent, perhaps we ought to send all H&S inspectors over there to ensure the Indians and other Asians know what risks they are exposing themselves to and what they could do to lessen those risks.

except for chavvy wankers being un able to ahndle their beer and causing bother

Think that'll be a problem wherever you go these days. The world is full of chavvy f?ckers with a bag of McCains on each shoulder who, unfortunately, want to show off to their equally chavvy girlfriend how they can have a fight with a bloke twice his age.

Assume you are talking about the Swan one on Thursday as ours on Saturday is tickets or pay on the door, so the Chavs move on!!

Greenmount Scouts, Cubs and Beavers Bonfire and Fireworks display. Doors open from about 6.30 with the Bonfire due to be lit at about 7.15. Its on land next to Emmanuel Church Centre, Longsight Rd, Greenmount, Bury, BL8 4DB - just a bit up where the road splits; Greenmount to the left and upto the Hare and Hounds to the right. You can pay on the night or buy cheaper tickets at the Greenmount Old School (opposite Bulls Head) on Friday evening.

Frank and Totty - our eldest has only been going this year, so not sure of the history but as far as I can gather its on every year on the nearest weekend to November 5th. Its a great event and raises a significant amount of dosh for the organisations.

Tickets in advance are ?2.50 for adults and 50p for kids over 5. I think it jumps to ?4 and ?1 on the night.

I thought Horwich knew where there is a good bonfire this week.

Heaton Park is always a good un just one problem it is jammed packed all the time!

The notice at the gate advertises a bonfire that is being lit at six o'clock.

Jolly good! I'm sure it was only fireworks last year, or maybe I'm getting it wrong. Either way, I love a good bommy me, I do.

So is there a decent bommy on anywhere tonight?

Erm if you read this execellent article in the times on line it would seem that they had the "chavy" problem some 130 years ago on bommy night :good:

big fireworks display and fairground etc at leverhulme park tomorrow starting at 4

I've just had black peas, then carrs pasties and mushy peas, red cabbage and few cups of mulled wine and a couple of stellas

and now the smells coming out of my backside are making even myself choke

I've just brought my daughter back from Bolton harriers on Long Lane. Came up through Top o'th Brow and one og the houses opposite the shops was hosting a little bonfire get together. I watched a firework, must have been a 3,000,000 shot repeater or something. Probably cost a few quid too.

Do they really need to be spending stupid money on expensive fireworks or should they spend it on clothes and food for thir kids?

Or am I being a killjoy snob?

I'm struggling to see the attraction in watching some old wood burning.
