Tv Sport

seeing as theyre looking at which sports should only be on free to air

is it reet that cricket - for example - are told they can't sell to the highest bidder

is it fair sky are deemed good enough to show england v bangladesh from a cold durham in april, but not the showpiece ashes stuff from lords

clearly sky get subscribers through folk wanting to watch the top games so why the fcuk would they bother piling significant sums in for the shite

my view, if the peasants cant see some sport, tis their problem

An excellent view. :good:

All this will do is reduce the funding to cricket clubs.

If anyone wants to watch cricket, they will get sky.

Lets hope this doesnt go through.

Some people might not be able to afford Sky. It is poor value if you only want to watch cricket. Sporting clubs who say they will lose money through this should look at the obscene amounts they are paying their players each week. That is money going out of the sport.

There is cricket on Sky all the time. great value for money if you ask me

We have Virgins full package but i think everyone in our nation has a right to watch our national teams perform.

It's only one home Test series every 4 years remember.

Would this have changed if we'd been thrashed 5-0 last summer? Cant help thinking cricket is only big when we're competitive.

I am not sure things would drastically change if the proposed list was confirmed;

Olympic Games

Fifa World Cup finals

Uefa European Championship finals

Grand National

FA Cup final (England, Wales and Northern Ireland only)

Scottish FA Cup (Scotland)

Home and away football qualifiers for World Cup and European Championship (listed only in home nation to which they relate)

Wimbledon Championship (in its entirety)

Open golf championship

Cricket's home Ashes Test matches

Rugby World Cup tournament

Wales matches in Six Nations (in Wales only)

The only one, as metioned, which is slightly controversial is the Ashes. However if sky got all the rest of the cricket including the ashes away surely they would offer a similar funding package to the ECB? And as a customer would you stop your subscription if it lost the ashes? I wouldn't

It would be a welcome addition to see all the national qualifiers on mainsteam as apposed to the bizzare channels and internet options we have seen recently.

I agree with the sentiment regarding the internet but let's be honest here, ITV & BBC sports coverage compared to Sky's is not just dogshit, it's embarrasing & more than irritating to listen to.

Some of the SKY money is used to train coaches. Lets hope this doesnt stop.

Any sports involving the national team should be shown on 'normal tv' IMO.

A lot more people watched the previous home Ashes when it was on Channel 4 than the most recent one on Sky. Getting as many folk into the sport can only be healthy for the sport's future, so i think they should be on BBC or C4.

I've had Sky in the past and its just not worth it for me, for the games / matches I actually want to watch.

Money is what is needed to develop the game

The ECB should be allowed to go where the most money is

This Govt-inspired change is wrong.

One or two missing the point here. Sport on TV IS available to all. Just ring SkyTV and make an appointment to have a fitter round to put a dish on your wall.

No mainstream sport = no money being ploughed into the sports.

No Micky Sport on tv on Sky is only available if you can pay for it?

Oooooh Biff, I'm sure if those who 'can't afford it' ask those lovely people down at the social nicely, they'll do their best to accomodate.

international shagging is never shown on "normal t.v"

i've never seen cathy barry being rogered by some huge african bloke on't beeb......................

Well those that "can't afford it"should try clothing their kids at Matalan instead of JD Sports. It's all a matter of priorities; if you want to watch sport then you'll afford it.

Sky have put alot more into cricket than the government ever have!

Sky have put alot more into cricket than the government ever have!

Ditto for football.

In fact, probably ditto for most sports.

This is only a recommendation is it not? It's not written it HAS to go to terrestrial TV. Sky haven't got anything to worry about IMO because we went through all this a few years back and nothing changed. But having said that, when the country does go completly digital can't Sky still show it but bang it on a free-to-air channel? It's only 5 games every 4ish years so everything else that goes with the contract Sky have with the ECB will carry on regardless.

As for "if the peasants cant see some sport (The Ashes), tis their problem " comment then that is snobbery verging almost on a full blown application for the Upper Class Twit of The Year Award.

If you mean terrestrial then I thought C4 did a very good job of showing the Ashes when they had it.

No, I meant what I typed. BBC & ITV. C4 cricket is ok.

Only OK?

Anyway, can't remember ITV every showing a international cricket match, but I thought their coverage of the Lancs Vs Yorks Championship game in '79 was top notch.... all 4hrs of it
