Mpg

I'm only getting 23-25 to the gallon. I thought this cant be correct. I've looked at the internet and folk say it is about right. It can't be surely?

Before now I have never had a 'big car' so I know there will be some sort of difference and at the moment I'm only doing short runs in traffic which again wont help but 23mpg?????

Its a Passat 1.8 20V, which is the same engine as the Audi A4 if anyone has one of those.

Cheers.

is the turbo version?

if so, theres your problem

mid 20's are fairly common on such an car.

if its not a turbo then 30mpg should be acheivable i reckon. (so they even do a non turbo?)

Do you do a lot of motorway driving? Try driving at below 70 and see if that helps.

Try to image that every time you brake you are losing energy. Look ahead more to see when you get let the car naturally slow down before breaking.

Have a look on the net, loads of techniques to increase mpg.

Diesel TT - really light so it's quite quick, 170bhp too. If I drive it at 70mph I get around 600miles on a full tank. If I drive a little faster it goes down to about 500-520

Haha, what have you got - car I mean!

I'm taking voluntary redundancy in the summer so will have to send the car back - looking into leasing one and opting out of any company car scheme in a new role (just because of the lack of manufacturers you can usually choose from). Not sure what to get...

I have to have diesel in this job as I drive around 90 miles a day. I'm hoping my new role will be 20 miles a day tops so could definitely afford a petrol. Having said that the current favourite is the BMW 320d cab. Big fan of the hard top roof. That or something ridiculous like an Exige, but I'm struggling to find anyone who leases them.

cost me about 1.5 grand :) cant grumble.. Ford Mondeo 2.0tdci (130) absolute great cars.. theyve started doing a 155 version as well now..

the golf is suprisingly good on fuel.. Ive had 45mpg out of that on long motorway runs.. Which is pretty sweet for a hot hatch !

92 bp

11s

49mpg

Gotta love my mean machine! :pardon:

You've got a smallish turbo engine pushing a biggish car in urban traffic. Mid 20's isn't unreasonable. Things like poor tyre condition or pressure, having the air con/heater/12 speaker Cd, elecrtic windows used a lot can also cost a couple of mpg. Doris has a 2.0l S60, similar size and driving, and gets exactly the same.

The later Audis have the FSI engines in which do about 15mpg more.

My car's cream, does that help with this mpg business?

still 'reasonable' on fuel too (not that you'd care in such a car)

aye, low compression turbo's kick in really low, so its not as if you can change gear earlier to save fuel.

pretty happy with me X5 SD then. The computor says me average is 26 mpg since I got it in April 2008, and I havent been light footed on the pedal and its 90% short journeys.

I'm waiting for Big E's contribution to this thread.
