Remember it well mate in the middle of the mad days. Let's not mention the result of the replay though eh? ;)

Went down to London with some right loons. Bumped into gooners before the game (all black lads with lisps it seemed) - no contest. Went in the Shed, dead as a dodo. Walked along the tunnel under the stand to the North Stand. Their lads were there (some fcuker they sang a song about 'XXXXX with the staircase nose'. Can't remember his name but apparently had made himself famous kicking off at a match in Salonika).

On the p?ss with em, no trouble - came away wondering where Chelseas reputation had come from.

Never forgot Graham Rowes only contribution though. Compared to the other two who came as part of the same deal (Nicko and Chopper Mowbray) Mr. Rowe has been the least remembered of the three. Don't think he or Mowbray stayed too long from memory?

Fuckin hell Bolty how old were you in 1971? would have thought you were way too young to be mixing it with the cockernees.

got drawn against them in the FA cup later that same season ,went down Fri night got hammered in the pub opposite the ground & then ran the gauntlet until the

second half when the shed migrated to the old open end to give us a good old clattering , don't remember to much bonhomie that day.

Oh & we lost 3-0.

I was on the open end (North Stand ?? ) for that one & it was nasty with more Chelsea than Bolton on that end & Bolton fans were getting thumped from the start.

I was only a yoof & when it got really bad, for safety , I moved next to an official looking chap in a white coat, but when he turned round the coat had something like "Chelsea axe men" written on the back. I don't think butchers' coats had reached Bolton then ,or maybe I was just numb.

It was also a difficult tube trip back to Euston, with our clothes being v.different to the cockneys ,we were easily picked out ....though of course that worked for us when we played cockneys at Burnden.

Just had a look at that season the Chelsea away game had 27000 on, wonder how many whites travelled to London that night? he replay at Burnden had 29,000 on the previous round was the famous 3-0 victory against City, with 42,000 on at Burnden, must have been a big following from City fans, some strange attendance figures that season some games at Burnden barely 5000 on then a massive attendance for the City game. Also a decent attendance on at Gigg lane for the cup game against Rossendale does anyone have memories of that game? did the Bury boys turn out for that one?

One of me main memories of Stamford Bridge was 1981-82 when I was down at London at University and a mate from school came down. He was a Liverpool "fan" but had never been to a game in his life; I'd had 5 years or so of going to games and so knew what Chelsea away might mean, while he was blissfully unaware of the dangers. We blagged a couple of touted tickets into the stand opposite that big 'un, and I made sure he kept his gob shut. Fucking hell, there were some sights that day - older members of the shed climbed the fences to start to get round to the scousers, and I kid you not, the younger lot were getting under the fences! Carnage, utter carnage.

For me the City match was the best ever atmosphere on the Lever End. It was half Bolton-half City but they'd no chance of budging the Bolton fans & City left before the end as we beat them 3-0. For atmosphere, a lot of the best games at Burnden were night matches.

Rossendale- Bolton at Bury was comical.Bolton absolutely packed one end & Rossendale fans (Bury, Burnley ?) were in the opposite end....but you could move freely to either end. i.i.r.c. Rossendale scored first & Bolton charged round to the other end - the Rossendale fans were long gone before Bolton reached them !

Thanks for the info va va, how come city were in the Lever end? did they not get allocated elsewhere?

City were all over mate, when "Oh Gary Gary" scored his third they were on their way out, it was a very tense day.

On another note with City, I had long and meaningless conversations with Micky Francis who wrote the book 'The Guv'nors', in his book he said they ran Bolton up Manny road, I reminded him that they didn't, I couldn't tell if he was blushing or not before I banged him up.

Went to all three cup games against Chelsea that season. The first game in the league cup we took a few thousand down which surprised the chelsea fans on the opposite end to the shed and Bolton ran the few who was on there. After the game we were in a boozer waiting for our coach (on a private one that was not leaving till late) and Bolton fans went on the rampage late on. In the replay they beat us 6-0 and it was a big let down. The FA Cup we were going on the same end when Bolton fans were jumping the turnstiles to out of the ground due to the Chelsea fans all being in that end. Like someone else said we were getting a good kicking throughout the game and the law was doing nothing to help. Some tw@ kept kicking me and the copper was watching him but doing nothing; I got pissed off and lamped him only to thrown out immediately and didn't see the second half.

spot on the rozzers just watched us getting pasted as soon as a bolton fan threw a punch they were grabbed & ejected , my mate got thrown out but within ten

minutes he was back in the ground, although it was the shed end so he kept a lower profile.

Got a kicking on the way out of Bramhall Lane after we'd beat them 5-1. (Still couldn't keep a clean sheet!)

On leaving the ground I was close to the back of the Bolton crowd. Sheff United fans had run all the way round the ground and attacked from the rear. All the Bolton lot ran at first but I didn't . . . not because I'm superman or anything; I walked alongside two coppers thinking they'd struggle to attack me with them at the side of me.

They attacked me with them at the side of me!!!!

The two coppers looked, saw my plight and fucked off! Wankers!:vava:
