I don't understand why the Art's get any money whatsoever, if people want to see/do 'art' they should pay for it themselves.

 

Like we have to when it comes to sport.

 

You want it, you pay for it. Not the taxpayer.

I was just wondering if anyone on here can give some insight into the funding of local cricket clubs. Over the years, I have helped out as a parent, sponsor and through the supply of items for sportsman's dinners etc to raise funds. I also know that certain local business's also pump large amounts into the clubs/league (Axford's, Warburton's etc)

Do they get any sort of help from the council, government ECCB?

It made me wonder when I see all sorts of help to various organisations through the Arts Council. It would make an interesting comparison.

Many agree that we all have to cut funding, and I agree with some of the funding that has been pulled such as the regional arts agencies, but arts funding actually cost relatively little.

 

I also agree that my sector embarrasses itself with it's hands in the air, shreeking everytime funding comes up, likening ACE to the NHS is daft but what are we saving lives for, for thousands creativity is the reason to live rather than just exsist.

 

And as I said if you think ACE just funds theatre or contemporary art then you are wide of the mark. But as I said have a look at the list if you can be bothered if not, keep on marking nonsense assertions or ignore the cuts

and carry on with your day.

I would say that EVERYONE should by now realise that we have no alternative but to make cuts in every walk of life to reduce the HUGE amount of debt this country is in. I think some people are still in denial to the extent of the financial problem that we find ourselves in either for political reasons or pure stupidity!

I think the cuts to ACE are small compared to other sectors. I tried to make a comparison to local cricket clubs and the way they are funded (or football, boxing tennis clubs for that matter) Using a Cricket Club as an example, there is no doubt in my mind that the advantages to the local community and the individuals associated with the club are as beneficial as any dance group or arts circle.

I asked the question about funding of the clubs because I was genuinely interested to know how they manage to survive year after year. Is it through the members, sponsorship and income from the hire of the club etc. ? I think it is a fair comparison to make, if local sports clubs can get by without handouts from the government then why shouldn't more organisations that 'rely' on funding from ACE.
