May 23, 201115 yr You ain't drunk guiness until you've drunk it in Ireland. Better still, go to the South part of Southern Ireland, Cork, Kinsale, Limerick, etc. and have Murphy's instead.

It's exactly the same guinness, only difference is that in ireland there is so much pride in their national drink the pubs and bars make sure that the lines, pumps etc are perfect condition to deliver a pint of it, also as the turn over a keg is quicker chances are it might be fresher, but alot of guinness drinkers prefer a slightly aged pint as that is what they are used to drinking, and taste tests prove a keg of guinness produced fresh in uk scores higher than it's irish cousin.

I know for a fact it is, if a landlord looks after his lines etc the guinness here is just as good, a lot of people feel it tastes better in ireland purely because they are there on a social trip or holiday, relaxed, generally having a good time etc, i'm sure most things come across as being better in the right setting.

Note to self, have a try next season. P.S. One of yesterday's bar staff didn't know the difference between lager & cider, which was a little worrying.

May 23, 201115 yr R U sure the biggest guinness bruery was in kenya I think it's actually in lagos nigeria, and that serves the african market, the guinness for UK and Ireland keg is all brewed in Dublin, any keg guinness in England , Scotland or Wales is tankered into runcorn, blended and kegged there.

May 23, 201115 yr Thanks to Meldrew, I also now enjoy a Guinness at the Reebok, and it's miles better than the piss they serve up as lager in there. As for brewery and taste etc. I will await his special font of knowledge on this subject.

Meldrew'll probably confirm this, but Guinness people come and show you how to pour it and letting it settle is part of that training.
May 23, 201115 yr My original point, that the Guinness in Ireland is better, is probably based on their abilities when looking after the stuff and pouring it correctly. A big skimmer on the bar to take the head away rather than just keep pouring on top of the head seems to be the way to a decent pint.

So is the letting it settle to be honest,it's all part of the drama and the "good things come to those who wait", it may have originated from when landlords used to mix older flatter guinness with fresher more livelier guinness, you'll also notice that the first part is pulled with the pump pulled towards the barmen and the second with it pushed away to slow down the pour and allow nice touches like the shamrock on top etc, you'll find no difference in taste on a one part or two part poured guinness, you may find a better sized head on a two part pour but again that depends on the bar tender,
