If this turns out true, then we've just saved 10% of the NHS budget, apparently.

Lots of people are squirmish about withholding treatment from people with self-inflicted injuries, but when the cure can be self-administered too, frankly I say fuck em to anyone who can't be arsed and suffers complications as a result.

I'm behind you, marshy

(except when you reading the guardian)

Fantastic news, I wonder if people stop smoking whether that will also lead to savings in cancer treatment? Maybe eating less cheese will lower cholesterol .. The opportunities are endless.

Someone tell big dave that before he makes some more cuts in public spending he should consider educating the nation on health - everybody is a winner ... FFS ..,

Not that sure where all this is leading, every fucker's going to be out of work if we're not careful.

Well done, you don't get it.

The present understanding is that being a fat pig causes diabetes, but once you've got it, you can't get rid of it. Therefore many people feel it is unfair to withhold treatment because the aforementioned fat pigs can't do anything to fix it anymore.

This new research suggests that actually they can cure themselves if they wish. Thus withholding treatment is no longer a retrospective punishment, as the individuals can treat themselves if they wish.

Let me know if I need to explain it more slowly, or in shorter words.

FFS, I thought this one was obvious.

Marshy

You're getting good

Thumbs up smiley thing

Maarshy, my new found friend - so much of this is wrong.

Being a fat pig causes diabetes - certainly it can and in these people it has long been understood that this can be reversed in many cases. See studies into the so called 'cave man' diet etc.

But it is not the only cause - Others will get type 2 diabetes despite maintaining a healthy weight but are just predisposed to the condition and in their case it will be a degenerative disease.

As with most diseases prevention is better than cure and changing lifestyle can reverse the condition. Stop the press ....

The NHS would save on cancer treatment but pay out alot more on elderly care. Its cost UKplc less to care for a smoker than it does a non smoker over the course of a lifetime, this is due to non smokers liveing much longer and requireing costly elderly care.

Added to the fact that the goverment makes much much more from tax on tobacco than it spends on treating smoking related illnesses its a suprise that goverments are so keen to reduce the ammount of smokers, infact Mr Cameron may just start promoting smoking just to help raise some cash.

can they cure gout yet

Why don't you go round to my friend's house and tell this to their 2 year old daughter who has had diabetes since she was 6 months old.

You are talking from your arse again and proclaiming anyone who disagrees is not understanding your insightful proclamations.

Fat pigs indeed, you really are a nasty little shite, who doesn't really get it.

the child has type 2?

Are the parents fat pigs?

Yes and no, and no family history.

Pah, can't be true. This Roy Taylor is a typical fucking public sector sponger whose fat cat final salary pension will single handedly obliterate any putative savings to the NHS. No doubt the cunt will bleat on about how the notion of a half decent pension helped persuade him to stay within the kind of academic circles that yielded the results in question, but those in the real world know that's obviously bollocks.

can they cure gout yet

FFS I wish they would!

Mine's playing up behind my left knee again, think I might have to look in my stock of magic beans for anti inflammatories. It's a proper bastard trying to hobble to the pub 'cos I can't drive crutches!

Supposed to be going for bloods on Friday but as I'm such a complete girls blouse I'm going to hide elsewhere instead, gout or no gout.

The more folks you tell the more tell you they have it too!

Good thing is that the quack never told me to lay off the pop, just reckons certain things can cause it.

Didn't tell me what though.

And I know, too much port, red meat etc...........

Uric acid crystallizing in the bloodstream? Does that mean I'm full of piss?

Colchicine is the best remedy for an attack it's the best drug I've ever had, I'm newly diagnosed with it, this was prescribed with my allopurinol when I first got it, I'd recommend you get that from the quack
