Murps And Florrie Lindley

Featured Replies

Missus surprised me toneet (and not for the first fecking time).

I was rolling some mandarins around on a kitchen worktop whilst waiting for my scran and she asks me what I am doing. 'Murps', I reply. Not a clue what I am on about.

Later on, some discussion about some bird she knows taking over a corner shop. 'Like Florrie Lindley then?'. Another completely blank look.

Normal terms commonly known around Bolton, right?

Way, way, way over my head.

With murps, do you not mean marps, as in short for marbles? Florrie Lindley is before my time

Florrie Lindley was the first owner of the corner shop in Coronation st,introduced in episode 1.

murps isnt marps but it is marbles

I would have said 'marbs' for marbles myself - don't know what murps is?

Florrie Lindley used to have the corner shop in Coronation Street in the Len Fairclough, Elsie Tanner, Ena Sharples day.

It's a Wiggin thing, Bolty's obviously descended from the land of pie.

A decent pub ? You would have to show the bouncers on the door your criminal record before you was allowed in.

Way off beam matey. Unusual for you. As a few have said, marbles were always known as murps when I were a lad. North side of Bolton and beyond. Wiggin?

Florrie Lindley? Like Albert Tatlock, a proper name. Wouldn't recognise her on a photo. Don't recall too much about that programme. Name sticks as it's typical old northern.
