June 15, 201214 yr Personally, I don't give a toss either way about a couple of islands populated by c3500 inbred penguin fuckers, it makes fuck all difference to me who owns them. At the end of the day though, the decision should be down to the peoples who live there, and have done for a considerable period of time, and they have clearly stated that they want to remain a "British Oversees Territory", so therefore that should be the end of the matter. The only reason that both Argentina and Britain are remotely arsed about the place is that there is potentially oil to be had, lucrative fishing grounds and also some sort of claim on a slice of Antarctica. If/When oil is discovered and they can get it out of the ground in sufficient quantities, they'll immediately be claiming independence from Great Britian so they can keep all the wealth to themselves, of that I have no doubt at all. Then they'll be calling us all the cunts under the sun

June 15, 201214 yr Some people have very vivid imaginations. I know it's a bit far fetched........but when you've got some nobbers in Cornwall wanting to be independant and also many in Scotland wanting to go it alone (whilst claiming the North Sea oil fields as theirs) I can see some of Falklanders thinking how great it would be to be fully independant. They are already self governing as it is, so I don't see why the step to full independence wouldn't/couldn't happen in the next 50 or so years
June 15, 201214 yr If the Falkland Islands were to go fully independent, the Argies would wade straight in within hours
June 15, 201214 yr What happens if they declare independence and then the argies roll into port Stanley and stick their flag in the ground? On their own, the corned beef eyters could invade in a rowing boat.
June 15, 201214 yr If the Falkland Islands were to go fully independent, the Argies would wade straight in within hours Maybe they would, but it would be seen as an out and out act of war, and no doubt us and the Americans would be called upon to save the day again. Out of interest, has anybody here ever been to the Falklands? - A bloke who goes to the same gym as me works for FOGL, and he visits there once a quarter. He reckons it's proper grim for a night out, and the locals are all as rough as fuck. When he travels there he has to go in a military plane down to Ascension, and then another place across. He hates it. He reckons it gets quite a few tourists from the cruise ships now though who arrive all excited and then all look like they want to leave within an hour of being there.

June 15, 201214 yr Then they'll be calling us all the cunts under the sun They don't much like us as it is. The squaddies who there last time referred to the Falklanders as BUBs. Bloody Ungrateful Bastards.
June 15, 201214 yr They don't much like us as it is. The squaddies who there last time referred to the Falklanders as BUBs. Bloody Ungrateful Bastards. I got told they called them Bennys cause they all looked like benny from Crossroads; they didn't like it & complained to the Army. Army got them to stop calling them Benny's; so they renamed them Still's (Still look like Benny), So i'm told.

BUBs was the third naming attempt.

They have problems getting flights in due to the Argies being cunts over airspace. I don't think folk go for an Ibiza like experience though, to be fair, more for the wildlife.
June 15, 201214 yr A good mate of mine from Leyth was missing presumed dead after the Sir Galahad got blown up, he appeared a few days later on t'other side of the island, Leyth Journal ran a story about him and how he had left behind a wife and daughter, now he had some tales to tell, top man.
June 15, 201214 yr Apparently most argies couldn't gve a shite about the Falklands. it's seen as an easy bit of sabre rattling and diversion tactics from the economy and her other failures in the country etc.
June 16, 201214 yr If she wanted to distract the voters simply tits out and offer a lez off with Sarah Palin
June 16, 201214 yr Im suppose(if work gives me the time off) going there for a 2 week Ex in October! The terrain is suppose to be that bad everywhere we go in the field we are Chinnocked in and out! We go there every 3 years and it would be a shame to miss out this year. As well as being out in the field, there is a round the islands boat tour, and also battlefield tours, plus a couple of days R&R! By all accounts its grim as f*ck, but somewhere id never get chance to go in civvy street, and i'll be getting paid to be there! Also i dont know how true, but apparently the flight to the Falklands island, is the dearest flight out of the U.K to anywhere in the world!

Can you actually get a direct flight? - I thought you had to go via the Ascenscion Islands (my mate always has to with his work)

June 16, 201214 yr Yes your right! Fly to Ascenscion, where you refuel, however as you fly with RAF(in the military anyhow), you apparently all file off to the other side of the runway for about an hour and half while the plane refuels, ascension is suppose to be red hot aswell, then next destination in the Falklands, which even in summer is suppose to be like the moors in winter!

Sounds about right. My mate who works for FOGL says its only made worse by the fact that he's sneered at by the military types for the full journey as he's a a civvy. He said that Ascencion is just a big volcano sticking out of the sea, apparently its very small, with nothing going for it other than a big military base and some nice fishing.
