Help With An Old Player...

Hi

I am helping my 8 yr old nephew with a holiday project. We are looking into the life of Jimmy Rigby. Jimmy was born in Bolton and played for them in the early 1900s. I am hoping that someone who is a member of this forum will be able to help in additional info on his playing career.

My family have a connection to him as his oldest daughter married my great uncle.

In brief, I do know that he played for Bolton and Accrington before moving to Exeter (where I live) for the 1911/12 season. He was captain of the team that played in South America in 1914. The team played what is recorded as the first Brizilian national team during that tour. He went on to fight during WW1 before returning to Exeter in 1919.

I have been told by his step grandson that he had the opportunity to return to Bolton but his wife refused to move back. He also let me have a copy of a photo of a team with Jimmy in it. The team consists of some very young players wearing white shirts. Could this be a Bolton team?

I would be happy to let you see a copy of this picture if anyone feels them might be able to identify players or team.

I hope you don't think I'm being too cheeky using your forum for this but I would be grateful for any help to fill in some of Jimmy's early career.

Thanks

Alison

Only since I told her about my mattress topper.

I've just stood outside work and the sun is shining, the breeze is lovely. No damp patches in the area today!

I didn't think Woodbury was cheap! It has an expensive golf course. Or do you mean the little tunnel the marines play in?

Ohhhhhhh I like damp patches!!!

Haha, where we stay is cheap (comparatively) but it's not the tunnel!

There's a 9 and an 18 hole course there.

oh yeah I've heard it's very cheap there! Especially if you drive a formular 1 car! I do know someone who shoots pigeons up on the common rather than golf balls.

up the common?? is that a posh word for up the shitter?

If Biff was still on here, he'd probably have watched this fella play and known how many Capstan full strength a day he was on.

I think Alison's best hope is to post a racy picture and see if it jogs any memories. Stranger things have happened.
