Butlins?

Seeing London and Leicester skinheads when i was 15 was quite impressive.

I think that Bultins "had it's day" back in the 70s and 80s

I went to the one at Bognor about 5 years ago for one of these music weekends, a huge crowd of us went down and we thought it would be great, most of us came home early. The rooms were just utter, utter shit and the cost of the food and booze (with you being a captive audience) was quite frankly outrageous. I shan't be going back again I don't think.....although to be fare, some of the ones that have been done up recently might be OK, buit Bognor was just shit.

I always thought the point of Bultins was so folk could have a cheap holiday here in the UK, I reckon the cost of a weekend iun Bultins would now be far more expensive than jumping on a budget airline and getting yourself over to Spain for a few days

... but I'd imagine the majority of 4-8 year old kids would enjoy Butlins more than they'd enjoy Spain wouldn't they?

Never done one, organised regimented holidays never appealed to me, never did 18-30's either, only done a few packaged holidays too. Cant think of anywhere worse on a wet and windy day in summer.

If you've got young kids then I'd imagine somewhere like Butlins is the best place to be on a wet and windy day.

I've not got kids therefore Butlins, as a 'proper' holiday sounds like absolute hell.

Kids have grown up but they were young once.

Used to take em abroad during the summer hols somewhere nice and hot with a nice beach. I'd book flights and private rent apartments with a pool so they could have their fun, take em to the beach, hire boats, bikes, cars for trips to waterparks etc. We used to fire up the bbq some evenings or enjoy walking around the local town choosing a place to eat and drink.

I reckon it worked out about the same or cheaper than butlins or pontins or centreparc and we got the better weather.

Sounds great to me.

I just thought that nowadays for those with kids that everything in life is all about keeping the kids happy. Making sure they've got enterainment on tap and can still tuck into chicken dinosaurs and the like. Of course I am generalising just a teeny weent bit.. :D

Are they not one and the same old WW2 prefabs. Don't do Holidays in England rather have my knackers cut of with a rusty saw.

When I was little my Mum was terrified of flying, so we always holidayed in the UK. We must have visited every Butlins in the Country. Then we got a trailer tent, then a static. We went to Lloret De Mar once but my Mum was so traumatised we went back to camping.

Now I've grown up she's got over her fear and now they have about 4 foreign holidays a year.

The bitch.

I can see how she was traumatised by a trip to Lloret though

When ours were that age we used to take them to Benidorm in October staying in an apartment, good weather but not too hot, great beach, swimming in sea, night time in Pancho's which was geared for kids until around 9:00pm and trips out on the train up the coast.

Also had the benefit of built in babysitters, as the in-laws used to spend winter there, so we got some time out to ourselves.

Wouldn't have contemplated Butlins or Pontins as farming the kids off whilst I sat around in a bar drinking all day didn't appeal.

Fuck me

A week supping in Bultins would be more expensive than a week int Maldives.

Except there wont be many people in football shirts and trackie bottoms screaming at their kids and getting wankered all day in the Maldives.

Maldives it is then :)

What, no bingo?

Anyhow, Babysitters? Abroad? Shirley it's safe to leave your kids in the apartment whilst you go out for a meal innit?

Baffling anyone goes to Lloret when you have Tossa de mar just up the coast, spaniards got the names wrong way round.
