Up Top - Best 1, Or 2?

If you think it's been bad at the back this season, our attacking stats have got to be up there with the worst in the country/world/ever.

In 6 league games we've scored 3 goals, with none of those 3 coming from our forwards. We've only once played the same pairing consecutively & half the time Dougie goes with 1 upfront & half the time with 2.

Burnley - Beckford

Reading - Beckford & Ngog

Forest - Davies

QPR - Beckford & Ngog

Blackburn - Beckford & Ngog

Leeds - Ngog

To me it's obvious that we can't hold the ball up, we've virtually no presence in the air, we're lightweight upfront & Beckford & Ngog are too similar.

I think we're suffering from an SKD hangover. We're used to having someone upfront who can win headers, hold play up to bring our midfield in & causes defences problems. We're playing high balls in & they're just coming straight back. We're putting crosses in but there's nobody to win them.

IMO We need 4-4-2 with Craig Davies being 1 of the 2. On his own he's not good enough & without him we're not strong enough.

Thoughts?

Oh, and 4-4-2 doesn't necessarily means slinging balls into the box either.

it doesn't but freedman saying he won't play 4-4-2 and keep banging the ball in the box as been altered to he won't play 4-4-2

3-5-2

Bogdan

Baptist - ream - mills

Eagles - spearing - pratley - medo - lee

Eaves - ngog

3-5-2

fcuk me

Dougie just playing the game as he always does, giving nothing away.

of course he will play 442 again, he will just have N'gog dropping off behind Beckford and call it a 4-4-1-1

if he does, i can only see medo and spearing in the middle

one of lee and eagles plus pratley

Yep

But he does like to surprise

I thought we'd be settled by now

aye

pratley is massive for us

the negative is, we aint playing our best formation when he plays (unless he plays wide)

fcuk me

Well, I was gonna say -'don't we want to win this match ?'.

But your comment says it better, Cas.

could start with either Eaves/Davies/Odeluis..

end of the day Ngog and Beckford are doing jack shit upfront for us..

Get sordell back !

aye

I think Pratley's ok on the right of a 4-4-2, with a traditional winger on the other side

We're always more balanced IMO if we don't have 2 "wingers" wide

BUT

I said the dame about Mavies there and that didn't exactly work out

And

Not in that bloody diamond formation with Ream sitting

Not in that bloody diamond formation with Ream sitting

This with fucking bells on it

Ream as far away as humanly possible from the starting XI

Best player at weekend?

Tallest dwarf?

As Jules said on another thread, its the easiest position to play and look good.

You're never the last man to fuck up and be directly at fault for the goal

You're job is to cover for any of the back 4 or midfield who are out of position, which makes you look like you save the day.

Other than that its put a foot in a play a simple pass to the nearest man

System works on champ man

Whatever formation we play we can play ngog and beckford as neither work hard enough without the ball, so the opposition play the ball out from the back too easy.

You need someone working their socks up there.

Also CYL is fucking garbage at the moment.

Agree with all that but in Dougies world you dont press the ball just jockey and wait for the opposition to lose possesion and thats the most frustrating part of his playing style it also mutes the crowd even when we were shit we would have someone like Robbie Savage tearing into players, if nothing else it got the crowd going.

Well versus QPR Spearing was doing just that

And yet you are a massive fan of Jedinak, who does pretty much the same job.

Ream passed it forwards well on Sat and started a few of of better moves.

He's excelling in a position, albeit easy, that Spearing and Medo have failed to so far this season.

First name on the team sheet for me, and I'm far from a fan of him.

Spot on.

He was our best player v Qpr and our best player on Saturday.

One of very few that seem at all comfortable on the ball.

Tallest dwarf is a bollocks sentiment by the way, because we lost and played shite do all the coaching staff have a week off afterwards and say "ahh they were all shit anyways"

Jedinak is playing in a central 2 whether that's a 442 or 4231

Ream is playing in the hole in front of the defenders and behind the midfield, he doesn't have to move more than 5 yards unless he's covering for an out of position player. I'm not saying he's not done it well, he has, but put Medo or Spearing there and they would be even better, they're both being asked to do an awful lot more than that though. Put Ream in their position, or in his natural position at centre half and he's like a fish out of water.

Derby will probably have John Eustace playing there tonight. He won't jog, never mind run all game. He won't move from that position, just stick his foot in and play the simple pass.

No, course not.

The point is though he's been our man of the match in two games we've lost 1-0.

The keeper and defenders don't get it as we conceded.

The midfield and forwards don't get it as we didn't score.

He's highly likely to get it in a 1-0 loss scenario.

as I said, that's not to say he hasn't played the position well in those two games, i'm just not getting carried away.

This is where I'm at on this one too

That job (if you play it) is very influential

Ream hasn't influenced the game enough if we've been shit as a team both times he's played there

It's easy to sit in that hole, collect loose balls and then keep it....but frankly that's not enough

Especially if that means that the formation causes holes elsewhere (wide v QPR for example)

i think ream has done well

but when he fell over the ball on the halfway line on saturday i'm just glad it wasn't knight

I agree he looks calm and assured his strengths are his passing ability and he's got good vision the jury's out on if he's a centre half though.

Id like to see us start with Beckford and Davies up top. Maybe not for us but they have both known how to find the back of the net in the past. Ngog has never been a goalscorer.
