Boiler (Again)

Knackered boiler, I think it's what usually breaks every couple of years (a 'spring' holding the burner valves open) - but it's no longer under maker's warranty so this time I'll have to pay. :(

I've looked back through the previous threads and there's nowt but recommendations for robbing dogs British Gas - who want about a grand all in to do this miniscule (hopefully) job and for 'cover' for the rest of the year...

I'd rather use someone local anyway, the only one mentioned is Bradshaw - who equally get praised and panned in the previous threads.

Anyone had any good boiler times recently?

Oh aye, and a UPVC window fitter as well (hillofdaub?) - I need one of those too, a window needs replacing (and again there's no definitive previous thread).

Cheers.

Don't be so soft Youri, what do you need a boiler for......we all know that you're a frugal sort, why not try this: http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/how-i-live-without-paying-a-penny-for-heating-or-hot-water-110918230.html

I think being a filthy scumbag who washes out of a kettle is the least of his worries, although I feel sorry for his girlfriend - Bella...

Get a new one? The one that's installed is barely out of warranty! Eeeh I dunno, some folk must have a money tree at bottom of the yard :) Anyhow, I could have a small Nuclear Reactor fitted and it wouldn't probably make the house any warmer - it's too bloody big/high ceiling (and decrepit) so it'll get fixed rather than throwing good money after bad on a new one...

Cheers for the advice though, I'll make enquiries later, I probably would tough it out a bit longer (I've plumbed an electric shower in before anyone makes any more inference of spitwashes ;) - and the boiler works for small amounts of hot tapwater) but the dehumidifier keeps frosting up :(

Fuck me, there's frugal and there's taking the piss...

Lee is now on an Economy 7 tariff, which offers cheaper electricity at night than during the day, as a result he’s become partially nocturnal...

When his provider, partnered with SSE, announced it was increasing bills by an average 8.2% last week, he decided to turn his fridge-freezer off. “They’re not getting any more out of me,” he commented.

Most of the food he eats, such as porridge and noodles, can be made simply by boiling water.

...more conscious about how much water he was using. For instance, by using water from his dog Bella’s drinking bowl to flush the toilet, he makes sure not a drop is wasted and Bella gets plenty of fresh water to drink.

Why doesn't he have a mooch around the local woods, I'm sure he could scrape together a few logs to fashion his coffin when he's got nowt to to during his waking hours of the night.

Amazingly my assistant has just advised that she is taking tomorrow off to have her boiler fixed

I reckon he's the sort to knick a load of "Whoopsie" sarnies out of your trolley.

He's like the Scarlet Pimpernel of scrubbers.

Thinly veiled I've got central heating thread.

I was brought up in a house without central heating...

I actually gained in creature comforts when I moved out, aged 21...:(

If you don't get sorted, my daughter's fiance is corgi registered and all that shite, he'll sort it for you.

No guesses for which county this playboy is from?

Get a new boiler through the green deal which is basically paid for through energy bills by having a more economical boiler.

Or free boiler through the Eco deal if you earn fuck all

I have a Baxi combi , no hot water. turned out it was the plate heat exchanger got full of shit.

Contacted Baxi, who thirough Homeserve replaced the part (about £100 plus callout & fitting) plus provide a further 12 months breakdown cover for £300 (£25 a month D/D for 12 months).

British Gas only £15 a month for me

And last winter they changed the main board, heat exchanger and another part, all seperately, but only charged me £50 excess once

Came out same/next day too even during the cold snap

Can't knock them at all

Due to a change in circumstances s-i-l isn't available these days and son isn't gas safe (anything else from rad move to full bathroom installation ;-) )

If you're not sorted Youri give Ryan a call on  Mob:  07973 302432 and tell him Andy D from Horwich gave you his number.

Oh and anyone know any decent roofers?  :blum:

I might do that, looked into it and you need an EPC which is £50.

I've had 2 epc's done for free in last 3 months.

One before wall insulation and currently waiting on 2nd one before new Boiler on green deal

How did you get that? Looked online but no mention of free ones, although only had a quick google

Difference being his boiler is already fucked.

No idea to be honest.

Didn't know anything about it. Just got standard surveys done and they were part if the deal.

There was probably a cost somewhere but I certainly haven't paid it.
