Originally the Roundhouse public house.

Greenhalls .

OK . ish .

Our kid refurbished the bogs.

Long story.

From the Mike Hunt book of interesting facts, it was the first drive through restaurant in Europe.

In the biggest town in Europe too, a double first.

HEHRYS africa's

I'm going to give up now. My mental health is too important to me

Wasn't it a chinese restaurant once?

I'm sure I remember going there for a birthday 'do'.

Or was it a nandos?

It's a McDonalds now, I think.

Henrys for crying out fucking loud.

You are correct. It was built by and run by, Warburtons and was, as has been said earlier, the first drive through in Europe. This may seem strange as there are so many McDonalds now but it was a first for Bolton. I'm guessing about 1980.

I thought it was earlier than 80 as I'm sure I was only at junior school when we used to go

It was a right treat, well, I thought so.  My father moaned about there being no cutlery & why did we have to eat it in the car.

Visionary - except no c*nt had a car then...

Well, folk who had a car and the money to fritter away on hamburgers would probably opt for something a tad more upmarket.

Takeaways weren't really that popular back then, I can remember getting a leaflet for a Pizza Delivery firm circa 1986 - it was quite an event, took weeks (well a week) before me and a mate managed to blag our parents to get a delivery...

Gino's I think it was called - had a cartoon of a delivery man on the front of the menu, who looked asian (the cartoon), and, true to their literature, when it arrived he was too (the delivery man).

I'm sure there was only one Kebab shop in Bolton at this time (Deansgate?).

There was an Italian delicatessen up 'Dobble' that used to sell stuff that you couldn't get elsewhere, like breadsticks and Parmesan cheese and peroni beers. Can't remember it's name but again around 1980.

I have a vague recollection of that. My parents used take me and at the same time get me dresses from Jean Dawsons.  I never understood why a really nice children's dress shop was in such a "multi cultural" area.

They were getting shut of it (Peroni) as early as then were they? F*cking catpiss, awful stuff, and I've never seen an Italian drink it...

It's being actively pushed as the new 'reassuringly expensive' lager after the downmarket-ing of Stella (and other premium lagers), it's still horrid toxic stuff - why anyone would prefer over, Becks, say, is beyond me.

I used to love Henrys and had a couple of birthday parties there as a kid.  They used to give you a box of Maltesers for a birthday present which I thought was ace :)
