Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 14, 2017 Site Supporter Share Posted March 14, 2017 Excuse me, I'm not 70 until September. As a former athlete, do you feel much younger or is your body letting you down?
MalcolmW
As a former athlete, do you feel much younger or is your body letting you down? In my head I never passed 30, but I have really slowed down in the last year or so. Blackheath Harriers used to organise a 100 x 1 mile relay held simultaneously at a dozen or more tracks around the country. In 1977, as it was the Queen's Silver Jubilee they changed it to a 25 x 1 mile relay. We might have finished 3rd or 4th, but there was a Silver Rosebowl for the first team all born within the Queen's reign, so I selected the u25s as our strongest team and won that section (finishing 6th overall) in 1:57:12. I find it difficult to believe that those lads of 15 to 25 are now 55 to 65.

jayjayoghani
Malc, did you read about the legendary older runner Ed Whitlock passing? Ran under 4 hours for the marathon at
MalcolmW
Malc, did you read about the legendary older runner Ed Whitlock passing? Ran under 4 hours for the marathon at 85 No. I knew about him, but didn't know he died on Monday of prostate cancer. It's just 4 months since he ran that sub-4 marathon. (Daz - this guy ran 18:45 for 5k at 75.)
