June 14, 20206 yr Just to let you know that sadly, Sister Barbara passed away on Friday. She was 85, and for some of us was a big influence. I know Widders & Youri are old boys from there. I had a lot of respect for her, such a tough job after us young cunts started there in 1979. RIP Sister Babs
June 15, 20206 yr I was a MSJ lad but started there in 99. We had to do two days a week at the old convent because the school wasn’t big enough and ran out of rooms. All the sisters were lovely, can’t specifically remember sister Barbara, but my condolences.

June 15, 20206 yr I always thought MSJ was a decent school from the lads I know who went there. Not quite the calibre and genius producing quality of Little Lever but decent nonetheless. anyway RIP

Like I said she had a tough time after they went comprehensive, and it changed to boys and girls.
June 15, 20206 yr My wife is from an Irish heritage on her mother's side and reckons the high rankin nuns in Ireland was fookin scarey people even as late as the 80s, some of her family say they still are.
June 15, 20206 yr Mrs Walker was the headteacher when I was there, had no interaction whatsoever with pupils which suited me. Had some right cunt teachers though
June 15, 20206 yr My mate lived off Hawthorne rd very near there, late 70s we'd spent all night sleeping out on hazzy park supping merrydown and special brew (like you did in them days), anyhow as we were freezing by about 4am we were trying to get back into his gaff but had no way of getting in, it was getting light by then so we decided to climb over into the girls school, if i remember there was a tennis court, as we sat on some benches i started screwing a corkscrew into one of the benches and as it got maybe 2" in it snapped off. I am now thinking that if that bench is still there i bet that corkscrew is still stuck in it as there is no way you,'d have got it back out.

Great for a quick fumble , ( note this is when it was all girls). The problems occured if you strayed from the wall into the grounds. I am sure the Nuns had been trained by a japanese snipper . Within 10 mins they would spot you and launch a pincer movement totally blocking off the route back to the wall. I can still visulise 2 of us legging it towards the main gate. Young Sammy hampered by a broken leg. But ( other than the not right i married ) the MSJ girls were bloody good girls and great to be around
June 16, 20206 yr And never mind Widders, Sr Monica was still alive last I heard, around Easter time. Miss Walker was great, taught me for 3 years, Environmental Studies & Geology
June 17, 20206 yr Speaking to my mate about Sister Babs passing he said ahh she was the one who belted you with a book. I had totally forgotten part of this. We were on break and playing football with a netball for some reason, I shot it hit a rock, sat up and smashed a stained glass window. I legged it thought I got away it next thing I felt this smack on the back of my head, Old Babs had twatted me with a hardback book, might have been a bible. Dragged me inside and took me to one of the teachers, they called my old man in. They wanted him to pay for it, he just said no way you have insurance for stuff like that it was an accident. She threatened to call the old bill, my dad cold as ice, just said do that and I’ll tell them you smacked him over the head with a book. So let’s say no more about it.
June 17, 20206 yr Aye some folk yearn for the good old days, but it's a better world that teachers cannot basically assault kids for little reason
