It’s not that I didn’t  underestimate the pitch, you could tell it was a beach from day one,  I just thought if 2/3 of our batters could have done a similar job to theirs in the first innings then it was game on.

The other massive contributing factor (which is just as much a concern for the rest of the series) is that our spinners are just not as consistent as India’s. So many times a good ball is followed by a poor/average one, whereas India build up pressure with consistently good bowling. 

I think as @boltondiver alluded to the day/nighter might even things up a bit in our favour, get Jimmy back in.

But how good has Foakes been? Can’t be many better in the world game than that lad, outstanding performance.

The pitch is playable once the ball gets softer, well against our spinners, at least!

Not this match.

Difficult for spinners from England in a way, as they don’t get the number of overs in on such wickets.

Opposite of other nations coming here and not being as good at swing bowling.

Was right about social distancing though.

And Foakes has been tremendous behind the stumps. 

Nearly the fastest test 50 of all time and then returning home.
