An interesting subject this. Not sure that the two can be separated without major changes to the way we live our lives.

Sustainability throughout, and huge reductions in usage of energy and resources.

Yep

I wouldn't dismiss the overpopulation argument completely. There's lots of countries where women want more choice over how many kids they have and access to birth control, but just don't have enough freedom and access to education.  

The reality is though it's emissions. There's much smaller families all over the West and other developed nations who emit far more than a bigger family in the global south. Taking billions of people out of the equation wouldn't make much of a difference if we carry on as normal.
