The Skirmish.

It don't seem like 34 years ago since the Tongue Moor against Great Lever clash in the Wagon and Horses.

The only proviso is most are dirty reds. 🤣

I grew up in Little Hulton in the late 70s.  Loved being a Wanderer amongst all those plastic reds.  There weren't many of us (greater numbers than City or Liverpool) but we were gobby!

I grew up there same period, was swimming against the tide and pretty sure us whites got up their noses, still think we do to this day… it’s unbelievable to say most LH friends of mine were with fellow whites, never really got close to lads who were reds, don’t know if that was my issue or their issue.

The difference was, or seemed to be, us Wanderers all went to the game with Dads, uncles etc.  I cant recall any of the Utd 'fans' ever actually talking about a game they attended, it was just what they'd seen on TV.  Was great sticking it up em with Frankie in 78/79

Must say the LH whites I know are pretty hard core, most of the reds were that back in the day and while still reds few off them go to the game these days.

Little bit earlier for me but never met  a City fan at either school. 99% Reds and me. Pleased when I went to St. George’s and the deputy head was a Bolton fan along with a handful of others.

Never heard the phrase Billy’s whilst I was at school but heard it since for us Whites.

St George's! I remember it well. Joseph Easthams in our house before we moved to Westhoughton.  Much more Wanderers in that neck of the woods.

Walkden is white…..as I like to let many united fans know on a regular basis on FB

Didn’t Shaun Ryder and Christopher Eccelston go to Joey Easthams?

Think Jamie Moore and a Coronation Street actress went to St. George’s.

Yep. My eldest, who you know, is always telling me.😊

Can’t quite believe I never bumped into Ryder as pretty sure he was Mount Skipper, Chris was also Mount Skip lad, same class as me at primary school and played in same team as him at youth age, he was a decent player.

Met him in the hotel before a match against United. He was with a customer of mine at the time. Both Reds of course. I asked them what they were doing in here in an innocent sort of way. He didn’t seem to pleased.😊

Ha ha!! Didn’t Ryder wear a Bolton shirt in one of his videos? Might of dreamt that.

Think he did but it was Eccelston who I met. He’s definitely a Red.

England's Irie a World cup song in 2002? He wore a 50s Wanderers top on ToTP

Chris is a massive red, as was his Dad.

Jay went to George’s and still lives in Walkden, Catherine tyldsley was the Corrie bird who went to George’s. Tyrone went to Walkden High. Beckhams bestie Dave gardner also went to George’s, it was a bit surreal a couple of years back at his sisters 40th and I’m on the dance floor with Liv Tyler.

Brilliant that. Wonder where he got that shirt from back then.

Catherine Tyldesley, that’s the one. She also lived in the house that my ex now lives in. No one famous from the years I was there.

There’s quite a few, James Mcatee (his dad John used to play rugby for saint Helen’s) is doing well now for City. Quite a few soap stars in the area. Still massively outnumbered by crooks though 😂

I played against Little Hulton a few times, once the semi final of the Atherton Charity Cup, it was a bloodbath, tackles were going in waist high, one of our midfielders broke his arm on a LH players head, even the crowd joined in and had a scrap, LH won 2-1

Aye, happy days. It takes me back.

graffiti on walls round Horwich in the 80s was HBI

Horwich Boys International

there was also BBI

Brazley Boys International

dunno the story but as Brazley was one of the notoriously rough parts of Horwich, thinking they may have formed a splinter group to take on the rest of Horwich

neither were owt to do with football I don't think, I guess they came together to form the Horwich Casuals on that front

or maybe the HC were another group entirely

I've no idea to be honest, but there was never any "Horwich Casuals" graffiti anywhere

school wise, there was Joey's and Rivvy

not sure there was a rivalry as such, but Rivvy finished half hour earlier, so you'd often get Rivvy kids who lived on Brazley (across the road from Joeys) coming hanging around the school gates if they fancied a scrap with someone

Didn't CH out if your year and HB turn up at school one day with some rivi lads. HB ran into the yard and kicked a lad to the floor before running off and jumping into the back of a mini.. CH in your year was a nutter by all accounts but was always sound with me, he could have run for England him if he'd wanted, was definitely good enough. Was there any truth in the rumours Sean long left because he was getting battered by him all the time and not intact because he wanted to go to a rugby school?  As for schools fighting each other I remember being called cat lick a few times by westhoughton high kids but was mates with most of them. They reckoned that Deane had showed up at their school one day and lads with cross bows were shooting them from "the bonk." I can't vouch for that actually happening..

I believe St Cuthberts and Whitecroft had a few ‘discussions’ on occasion.

my recolleciton is not quite like that

CH and SL would have a few scraps here and there as they were the two hardest in our year, but whilst CH was most of the time sound as you say with most people, SL was just a bit of a dick/gobshite who was always getting into trouble with older kids and teachers

which was probably because he was bored because it was a non rubgy school, he used to play it on his own at breaks whilst everyone else played football

he was probably on the verge of getting booted out anyway, but was definitey the right move for him at that age to go to a school in wigan that played rugby

Yep was a shame CH different breaks he would have been a top athlete any long distance event we went to he won easily, was always sound with people who went. I vaguely remember a few mates saying Long was a kick off merchant, worked out pretty well for him in the end..
