No, because money can't buy you talent. Understand?

Sports Personality Of The Year 2006.
Just because your shouting doesn't make it right. Yes people with better backgrounds have got money at their disposal but money didn't buy her those championships - her own talent did that. I can't believe I'm defending the Royals, but you have such a friggin chip on your shoulder that unless your Working Class your achievement s are somehow less valued. Utter garbage - are YOU really that blinkered? Do you understand me?

Read the thread yourself and my previous response, I spelt out the issues. They didn't nail it, they completely missed the bloody point!

Tosh - just because someone is poorer doesn't make their achievement more valid.

Sports Personality Of The Year 2006.
Think that there are a few issues here getting confused. Firstly, there is the anti royal arguement that just because someone is born with a silver spoon they shouldn't be eligible for awards that are open to the general public or competing in a public domian because they have had social and monetary advantages - and to think I got slagged off for being a 'Commie'! That something is only valued if you achieve something AND come from a disadvantaged background. Secondly that Show Jumping isn't a 'real' sport ie the preserve of the working class, doesn't involve a ball or getting hit. Finally, even if you recognise Zara's achievements it is a minority sport and therefore under other circumstances (ie she wsn't a member of the royal family) she wouldn't have won and is therefore a stich up by the Southern biased media corporations. The first point, an achievement is an achievement whatever your background, far too many people wear their chips on their shoulders as badges of honour and sometimes excuses as to why they haven't achieved greater things in life. Whilst I don't like it as a spectacle, it is still pretty hard to do the things that Zara has done. Yes, it is a minority sport, and whilst I celebrate any recognistion of sports that don't get much coverage I think the BBC Sports Personality is rather a recongniation of fame or the way that someone set out to handle the tasks set out for them. So ultimatley it is a meaningless 'sporting' accolade but a fair barometer of what sports/stars have captured the publics imagination over the last 12 months. And I wouldn't read anymore into it that that

Channel 4's "alternative" Xmas Message
Tony Benn gave up his peerage in the 70s and Hilary has no time for his fathers politics, he's new labour through and through. C'mon lads, if we're going to have a political debate, get your facts right. Hilary Benn communist? I don't think so. I was on the tube near Aldgate doing my daily commute the day of those bombings and had to go to a funeral of a friend of my wifes who died, so when we talk about reflection lets remember those who died and the evil minority but don't let that dupe you into making glib comments about the whole of Islam, or any religion for that matter.

Channel 4's "alternative" Xmas Message
Blair WAS a breath of fresh air in the late 90s and we certainly needed New Labour as a country (personal view, before I get further insults!!!) but why oh why has he continually led the Labour party down this road of appeasment of America, further isolating us from Europe, our real global partners? Iraq was a huge error and appointing Brown would be a massive long term error for the Labour party, espcially with the Tories having a resurgance. Now Hilary Benn, he's the man!

I've just got a new laptop and I want to transfer my iTunes libary across. The only way I can think of is saving all the stuff to my audio key and then downloading. Anyone got any better ideas?

Channel 4's "alternative" Xmas Message
To be honest, I didn't want to come across as such a bloody bore. Yes, we do disagree but its healthy. I don't always agree with my friends (espcially the Tories ones!) but I quite enjoy these debates - online or in the pub! Right then, how do we all feel about Tony Blairs little speech about 'Britishness' today?
-
Channel 4's "alternative" Xmas Message
Or maybe because a small minority of that small minority are idiots who like to stir up racial unrest and that gets the media attention fanning the flames of the hysteria surrounding imigration, the 'war on terror', etc etc etc. Anyway, everyone else must be as bored of this thread as I am, either watch it or don't but for heaven's sake its not the fall of Britian as we know it.

Channel 4's "alternative" Xmas Message
Your opinion pal, but as I said only 3% of Britain is actually Muslim and if your xmas is going to be ruined by a Muslim woman having a prime time TV slot on Christmas Day, well then I feel a bit sorry for you.
