Guest as Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Had a Christmas do at the Reebok a few years back - the prices had to be seen to be believed
YATESY Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 IMO, if you drink Magners you deserve to be screwed. Totally agree. It is the best marketing ever IMO. It is cider in a bottle! Would you have drunk a bottle of woodpecker or strongbow in a pub a year ago? How many Magner drinkers have touched cider since White Lightening in a 2 litre bottle when in your teens?
HomerJay Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 (edited) the people who drink magners are the those who never drunk diet coke but now drink coke zero! marketing people are laughin their tits off! Edited December 12, 2006 by HomerJay
Crawley White Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 the people who drink magners are the those who never drunk diet coke but now drink coke zero! marketing people are laughin their tits off! Fantastic piece of re branding, its still shitty cider and now people are paying close to a fiver in my local for it. Loud, pissed West Ham fans by the looks of it on Saturday. Cracking night!
BWFCOLINH58 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 2.45 for the large bottle,an apple a day etc
jules_darby Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Heard all this about Magners simply being a branding thing before, it's a popular view but frankly it's a load of sh??te. It's been popular over in Ireland for ages without the marketing push, as it's not pasteurised like most ciders - they use a filtering process. Hence it tasting different to the usual cider you get down your local. Yes, it's become popular in Uk off the back of a substantial advertising campain and being seen as a bit of a "trendy" drink, but it does taste different - I know loads of folk who have been going over to Dublin and drinking it there for years. I don't drink it regularly, but trust me it aint just Scrumpy with some ice in it. Now if we're talking real ciders, get on the Thatchers in thr Man & Scythe

Now if we're talking real ciders, get on the Thatchers in thr Man & Scythe The best cider in the Man and scythe, was Bulmers Traditional, the drink looked like a pint of orange, but sadly, they dont sell it anymore, not suprising, after me and a wench had about 8 pints of the stuff, caught the bus back to Leigh, and ended back in Bolton, after falling asleep.
athywhite1958 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Off to Tiger Tiger in Manc on 22nd for our 'do', been told it was ??4.50 for a bottle of stella last year, thievin' manc tw@ts, I'll have to tell one of my staff if they don't smuggle me bottle of Brandy in they are sacked, simple
bwfc_sue Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Totally off topic but I remember when I was 17/18 me and friends used to get a taxi to Farnworth, especially to go to a pub that was called Greens ???, or that's what everyone called it, anyway, they sold this lager on draft that was like rocket fuel, I could guarentee that I would fall over before the night was out. Anyone know the name of this pub and the lager in question? Round about early/mid 80's.
tkonion Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 ??4.99 for a Magners in Manchester airport,i knew it was gonna be expensive there but was still taken aback.

Could have been The Bradford Arms, used to have Eiengerbrew, on the premises, which, for an Athy girl near New Bury, could have been lethal.

Anyone know the name of this pub and the lager in question? Round about early/mid 80's. We used to do the same thing. The lager was called "Green for Go" or something similar, a couple of pints and you were w*nkered. I think the pub was called The Bridgewater.
