Right, but all that shows is that not all inspiring signings work. All I said was "hardly inspiring"; which doesn't seem an odd comment regarding a player who has had seasons to do something at this level and never has. The fact that some signings don't work out doesn't make Nugent more appealing.

You don't get what is meant by someone saying a signing is 'inspiring' or 'uninspiring'? If you're not being deliberately obtuse then that's concerning. Would us signing Nugent make you think "great, we've got David Nugent, we might really do something next season"? Do you EXPECT him to have a significant impact?

But he's not a 10 goal striker, that's the issue. I said "he's probably capable" of getting 10. His ACTUAL record at this level is terrible. So no, a player with his record doesn't "do it" for me at all. Coyle will have to do a lot of work to get 10 goals out of him, if he can do it at all. If Coyle thinks he can offer something, fine. But does the signing "inspire" you?

Coyle got a bit of decent form out of Elmander, so anything is possible. Nugent is probably capable of 10 a season. Hardly inspiring though.

Ward looks to have a bit about him. Hopefully he's good enough to be in the squad next season. Connolly might be good as 4th choice, he's apparently improved.

It'd be quite funny if it wasn't supposed to be the chairman who did it. As a fan-owned stunt, it's a good one. Lacks class, I accept.....but planes towing banners; that's fairly epic banter. As to the celebrating. I assume what Didle's means is that he's from the "you have nothing to celebrate you worthless bastards" school. I think a lot of fans get that feeling when players have a season like Preston have. But in the heat of a game, when a player scores, it's hard to say he shouldn't celebrate.

I'm on the fence about how much change is needed. We've done well at times this season, but I do think we've over-achieved with the squad we have. We have a lot of very limited footballers and we've struggled to play the kind of football Coyle seems to want to. I think we need 4-5 first team players if we're really going to push on.......we can tread water with a couple of new ones.

Seems an odd one, claiming Holden, Davis and Ricketts as "new signings". Holden has only missed a handful of games, so I don't see why the claim fits there. Davis, we have no idea when he will be fit and (if he ever is) whether he will stay fit. Ricketts has played about 20 games this season, so again I'm not sure how the "new signing" tag fits. If they are new signings, then every player becomes a "new signing" during the summer, because they haven't played in ages. The fact is that only Holden of the three is likely to have a real impact when he returns.

I'm still not sure why there's a problem with giving Klasnic a start. You've said yourself Davies is out of sorts. Klasnic seems capable of putting the ball in the net and Davies' assists after the New Year have been limited. You can do your "stat attack", but without clarifying what it means it has no weight. The fact is that he is not creating goals right now, nor is he scoring them. So I fail to see why it's a probelm to say that another striker should be given a start, especially one who just scored. If Davies is neither scoring nor assisting, then I'm not sure how much we can lose by trying Klasnic.

True enough. Like I said, if the wins had been home and away then people might not be so gloomy. Interpretation is important. People notice that we only win the odd game, rather than clumps, and so they never get confident enough to enjoy it. That's my view of it, anyway. As for the lack of money, only too true. The releases will help, we're set to save almost 200k a week in wages from those who go; which is not chicken feed. Ultimately, I think it'll be gradual. We'll see some frees filling in the squad and maybe one or two that Coyle really likes for a bit of cash. If we sell Cahill for decent money then he might see enough to bring in someone to make a proper difference. Otherwise it'll be another season where we have to be more than the sum of our parts and hope we get lucky with injuries.

Yes, because you'll notice that I specifically pointed out the number of penalties this time round. It's almost as if I mentioned them for a reason.

Sturridge is a mardy bastard, but then most talented young players are. I can forgive him being a tool if he scores a goal a game. The lads have done well, but you do get the feeling that Coyle has had to squeeze this season out of them with a vice. If he's determined to play an attacking 4-4-2, then some of the current squad have to be thanked and shown the door. I'm not saying we need a fire sale, but some real changes will have to be made, front to back.

Has to be a positive rather than a negative though. Many of the players don't suit Coyle's way of playing (or the way he wants us to play). Many have been out of form. But he's taken a fairly poor squad and got enough performances out of it to get it into a comfortable position. The guy isn't a tactician, we can all agree, but I'd rather have a manager who can over-achieve with dross than one who can muddle along with quality. I'd like to think he'll do better with his own type of players and we'll improve in good order.

Aye, but the trouble is that most have been poor since the turn of the year and Sturridge has somewhat carried us since then. If their form had been spread out they may have got less stick, but because they have been under-performing for a while people forget they were good to start with. To be honest it's understandable.....you're only as good as your last game, as the saying goes. The truth is, if we had a stronger squad then many of those who started today would have been dropped a while back.

Too easy that one, I fear. If it were true, we'd have been stuffed by Arsenal. We won immediately after Wembley, but then our away form came into play. Today was one of those days where we were poor but should have had a point. We have rarely been truly convincing this season. I don't think it's related to Wembley. We've been shocking away from home all season and today we just messed up our usually excellent home form. I don't think it would be shocking if we won the next two games, nor if we lose them......it's just been a strange season. We're all moaning about how sit we are, but we're still in the top half. We all go on and on about this and that player being "Championship", but still here we are. The trouble with having shit away form is that it means you never go on a terrific run to build up confidence......so you don't notice just how many you've actually won at home. We're not on a downward curve.....we're really just one game worse off than we should be on the whole season's form; the two away losses were par.

So, just to clarify, you're not thrilled with the team?

Not today, certainly. He was only okay, but he wasn't bad at all. Set up some decent attacks.
