Bedsheets brigade?

I'm not and never will be. But the growing strength of anti evatt feeling,  leads me to suspect that there maybe a few fans who will show their dissatisfaction towards Evatt on Saturday, manifested in own made banners etc...

  • Despite my own pretty conservative views on expressing discontent and disappointment, there’s certain things I can let ride in the current situation. I’ve never minded the difference of opinion d

  • At Rotherham on Saturday I joined in with "sideways and backwards" as that is generally true and quite humerous, and I also suspect it riles him.  I just can't bring myself join in with "we want

I mean forget about slagging Evatt off during the game, just support the players. If you think Evatt is the main/ only problem then your deluded. Most of the team don't seem capable of doing the basics, recently.

Go on then who’s fault is it?

I've never said that Evatt should'nt take some blame for our present form and league position, of course he should. But when players can't do the basic's,  then they should shoulder a lot of blame.

They can do the basics.

We've seen it before, it's just gone to rat shit second half of last season onwards.

Football history is littered with similar examples of poor preforming players suddenly improving dramatically, once a new voice comes in.

Not unique to Football neither.

We're all human and a well managed work place is a happy one, with decent performance levels.

We're can be inspired, enthusiastic, willing to take responsibility, worried, nervous, demotivated and unwilling to take responsibility.

They can do the basics though. They showed that over the previous few seasons, or in “new” players’ cases, at previous clubs.

The way they are currently being coached (with a new system / formation) means there aren’t able to do it now - either through lack training, lack of belief (which is also a manager responsibility) or through the pressure brought on by the system. That is down to Evatt.

Case 1: playing out from the back. Can Baxter play a basic 15 yard pass or kick a long ball towards a striker? Of course he can. Can Santos make 15 yard passes to a defensive mid who is in space? Certainly.

However, our system is to invite the pressure (to break the press), so they now have to make a rushed 15 yard pass when they have a striker racing towards them, sometimes with their back to play; often they have to make that pass to a player who themselves is under pressure (eg Thomason, Metate because we only have 2 midfielders) and then they have to try a fancy turn or make a rushed first time pass to someone who is back under pressure again.

Suddenly it’s high stakes and one error (Hudds) is catastrophic or they end up having to go long (still whilst under pressure) without time to be able to properly find a man (or in Baxter’s case he puts it out for a throw in).

That’s not a case of being unable to do the basics. It’s the manager’s tactics forcing players to make errors. It happens in the Prem (look at Southampton) and they’re £50k a week players.

Case 2: Charles. Can he score from 2 yards? Of course. But in the last few games he’s missed a couple of absolute sitters. Why? In my view, match rustiness. The manager won’t stick with a preferred 11 and give players consistent game time. Lose match sharpness and you lose the instinct.

Case 3: scoring goals/our front 3. Even if you ignore playing people in positions they’re really not used to, if one week it’s Dion/McAtee/Vic, the next it’s McAtee/Collins/Lolos, the next it’s CMG/McAtee/Collins, how on earth do they do the basics like learning each others runs, being familiar with link up play, having match sharpness (see above). That’s down to the manager changing the front 3 and not going with his best 11.

Look at some of the top scorers and it’s because they form strike partnerships, players score week in week out (through consistency of starting every week), midfield players who can play passes without looking because they already know where the striker will be. No chance can out front 3 do that. Also, strikers are confidence players. Where’s the confidence if your on the bench 1 in 3 games (at least)?

Anyway, rant over. I’m off for a run.

So in my view its a very similar system to last season and the season before. Its very easy to blame systems. Any system should stop players playing to their abilities. Enjoy your run.
