Mounts Kipper Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 is it just me or is there a massive apathy hanging over bolton fans at the moment things have never been better, yet are away support is shite are home support in terms of crowds is mediocre at best and the atmosphere we generate is virtually non existent, what will happen when our performances drop off its current high standard god only knows.

Guest as Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 I'm sure if you add the amount of Bolton fans going to games this season, including all cup & league appearances, it'll probably be higher than it's been for decades. 4k to Portugal, 3k to Bulgaria, etc. We're a town of a quarter of a million, with very local support - you either support us come you're from Bolton or you used to live here. So we're never going to sell out Everton away when we're taking 4k to Wigan 3 days later. I don't think we're that bad, we're just not a massive club. PB In the air tonight
SatanGreavsie Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 2 points: First off, look at the effect scoring 4 at Everton had on those who went (which didnt, for once, include me) - everyone's come back buzzing. It does help to have dominance translated into goals; however, since coming back up to the PL we've played 84 home games in the league - and despite our undoubted success we've managed to score more than 1 goal in just 31 of those games. Does that matter as long as we're winning? Well in one sense no but in another.... Then think of the way in which those who have travelled to euro games have had their confidence in football as a passionate spectacle revitalised, despite the games themselves being largely shite.....and ponder on the fact that club does nothing in any way shape or form to engender this at home. Fancy putting a flag up? No chance - it may cover part of the last letter of an advertising hoarding. Fancy getting some noise going by standing up for a bit? No chance - the boys in orange will be on you like a ton of bricks (it's a safety issue don't you know - in which case how come I can stand up at half time?). Hope a good few away fans will be there and making noise? No chance - those that havent been priced out of it will be bullied by the stewards. The powers that be at Bolton are like the powers that be at all PL teams now - so far up their own arses that they fail to realise that it is just a couple of dozen blokes booting a bit of leather round and that once you take the spectacle and passion out of it it means nowt. Plus of course we are victims of our own success - the novelty has worn off to a large degree, which is why t'UEFA has been so good.
HomerJay Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 i dont have a problem with people not turning up, it is after all their money, their choice. i do have a problem with people who dont go and yet proceed to tell me over apint that okocha is past it and doesnt care, speed is to old, nolan will never player for england, davies brings nothing to the team, diouf is a complete disgrace, the team dont play good football, allardyce will deffo be leaving soon anyway.
Mounts Kipper Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 maybe too much success is causing burnout amongst fans, remember in the 70s going to huddersfield away there must have been 8 thousand there derby 12 thousand for 1/4 final league cup and 18 thousand for the semi at everton away, i know it is a different era but wish i could have a time machine to go back to that era.

Started going in 1977 and so know what you mean. trouble is, like you say, its a different era now. First off in real terms getting to games will have been vastly cheaper then. Even taking inflation into account I'm paying twice as much (or more) now for my ST than I was at the back end of Burnden's existence - and we're only talking 10 years back. Go further to when we crammed 30k+ into Burnden and it will have been cheaper still. Plus of course recent years have seen additions to people's expenses thanks to Sky, PCs, t'internet and mobiles.
