Bringing Sam Ashton on for Borgetti

Did Ashton come on to play up front? Thought he was a keeper!

I think he came on at full back,Sam reckons he did it cos Ashton is a MAD Bolton fan and he wanted him to be able to say "i played for BWFC" He has a big Bolton tattoo on his arm appartently.

Sam Ashton is the Academy and reserve keeper! It was a particular proud moment for me because Sam was the goalkeeper at Oxford Grove Under 14's before Bolton took him.

He is Bolton Wanderers through and through and I am so proud of him! =D> =D> =D>

He actually used to play centre forward and played there in the Boys Fed inter league side at 11 years old. He scored about 40 goals that season before going between the sticks!

He played for Oxford Grove? If he becomes massive I can say I played for the same club as him. Doubt it like. :D

am pleased 4 young sam know him well hes a breightmet lad proud as fcuk =D> =D> =D>

nice too se a bit of sentiment still alive in the modern game, well done to jimmy phillips and big sam for making it happen for a local lad. =D>

According to Mike Bennett on Tower FM after the match there was more to this than mere sentiment. They'd been tipped off earlier in the week that this was going to happen, not to give Sam Ashton a game but to make a point to the board that they were down to the bare bones today and were having to play an Academy keeper up front.

If this is true and with the rumours surrounding Sam and the Newcastle job you can see this one rearing its head again.

Some of the Watord-based press were a bit put out and thought Wanderers were taking the mick.

I listened to Sam's post match comments and he said that Jimmy Phillips had asked Sam if he could give Sam Ashton the last minute because he is a Bolton lad, Bolton fanatic and if he does'nt go any further in his career at least he would have the memory of putting a Bolton shirt on!

He also said that Sam had played in that position in his youth days so he was'nt un-nerved by playing that position. =D>

It was suggested when sam played pederson at left back in the Asia cup that sam was doing it to point out to the board the lack of cover in that area .

I heard from a mate before todays game that Ashton was on the bench and would feature at some stage.

Great stuff =D>

ashton played upfront

the crowd was shouting , ''theres only one sam ashton' '

In that case Vaz Te should have passed to Sam Ashton in the last minute and let him have a chance at goal instead of trying to go through on his own.

It was a clearly orchestrated substitution, since he had an outfield kit with his name and number on.

thats a very good point, wouldn't he have come on in a goalies jersey if it hadn't have been pre meditated

Word from the horses mouth is:

This new munich coach has taken the academy under his wing and had a look at the kids and chosen which is their best position hence yound sam playing outfield.

I bet he was buzzing his tits off when the travelling army were singing "theres only one sammy ashton"

moments to be proud of

think its good off the club to do what they did!! bet he was so proud to hear his name bein sang out!!! we might have been taking the piss but bet that was proudest moment in his career!! think ricardo should have put him through thou!!

If Ashton would have scored in the last minute, that would have been fantastic. Great to hear the crowd chanting 'there's only one sam ashton' =D> , bet he loved that! Bet he's down the pub tonight 'bolton fans chanting my name!'

Brilliant

What's child protection got to do with the signature? Aren't you allowed to have any dealings with kids football and also have a healthy relationship with your own knob? As long as the two don't happen at the same time I don't see your issue.

If, however, there is an issue, I'd better stop going watching both my son and daughter play football or stop w??nking myself stupid over pictures on a monitor.

It ain't going to happen!

I dont understand, Widnes.

I used to live on Oxford Grove many years ago, but I don't know him.

Then again, it was possibly before he was born.
