C86 Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Guilty! Gave up the family ticket after 2 years in the Premier and 30 odd years going with a few years off between 79 - 83. Never actually felt giving up cause of performances etc, more to do with the change of a day with the lads to the sanitised expensive game of today. Not the release from the working day stress that it once was. Something that used to be the major thing in my life became a bind, slowly but surely. The Reebok experience is simply not as attractive for many reasons. Still regardless of were i am (deepest china, usa etc or sainsbury's on sat afternoon) I know exactly when bwfc are playing and will find a way to get the result or score whatever. i was born in brownlow fold and will defend the town and club no matter who is taking the piss or where ever i am. I would turn up for the semis etc but i surprised myself by not following the whites on one away trip on our inaugeral trip into europe. perhaps i have truly have retired. my two sojourns this year have seen us beat and draw to bloody wigin! so the answer to the original question is yes and no. does this make me a pussy or someone who don't derserve a ticket for a cup final? since 95 i've seen bolton play 20 or 30 times. an home game for me now is an away game, cost to much :-s bit like crew86 said... i just dont honestly get the buzz anymore. that dont make me less a wanderer than the next bloke . i did not miss many matches home and away from the very early 80's to 95 when i emigrated down here . Going to the match these days is shite, sat in a lifeless stadium , over the top stewards there was nothing better in the'' Dark days'' than meeting your mates in town early doors wether it be space city or hanging about the train station waiting for the sweet green tavern to open. and having a ragging good laugh . these days you have to show you're ragging match ticket to get in the hpi What a ragging cheek ! I've been a wanderer since i was 7 and i'll be a wanderer for a long time yet! though i dont go much these days . I did get the buzz the last game I went too 8-[

Wobbly J Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Pissed up reflections - The Dark Days were the best days. Peterborough away (lost 1-0) OB suggested we leave the Kings Arms (i think) as it was the locals 'Lions Den' - did we leave , did we fcuk Exeter away - them singing 'your not famous anymore' - struck a chord Southend away - seaside top piss up Darlington away - travel short notice on the news that we had signed ex England tricky winger Peter Barnes - complete stump but at the time was a huge signing Wolves/Scarborough away - stuffed but non stop singing/passion Ending the London Jinx at Brentford I wish all the younger posters had experienced the 80's early 90's to really appreciate where the club is now
burnden Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Was only 17 at the time but will never forget it 88/89 season I think. Olivers all night and then to the Albion, to be met by a 7 1/2 tonne van. Driver barking at us "you young uns get to the building site round the corner and nick us some diesel" Crammed in like Sardines we were all the way down to Borough Market for opening time. Then left at closing time for Southend. What a day out there Bolton took over the prom. Never forget everyone in this pub on the front, the DJ put Housemartins happy hour on and the placed started jumping. was in the same van ...never seen so many people squashed into a luton box van ......
Smiley Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 It is a shame for newer fans not to have experienced all the lower league grounds. Feck me Darlington - what a shite end that was. All barbed wire and fencing - you could hardly see the pitch. You had that guinnel to negotiate getting into the away end, believe a lot of travelling fans came unstuck there! Grounds like Hartlepool, Shrewsbury (we had some great days there), Bournemouth (2 overnighters), Torquay (overnighter), Brighton (setting off the night before and doing Borough Market in the morning), Southend on Boxing Day (12 noon KO), Exeter on a Tuesday night, Plymouth (seeing our fans scrapping with each other in the away end), Grimsby (many times), Wolves (when it was a dump), every trip to Blackpool.... the list is endless. The last decent away game I went to was Arsenal when Ricketts scored late on. I cannot remember actually enjoying any others since then, or more importantly, having the urge to actually go to any.
Guest as Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I've been to matches for the last 18 years, and the worst game I'd ever been to was the 3-0 hammering at Tranmere in the cup semi. We were awful that day. I'm following the 'away games only' rule from now on. The Reebok is our home, but it's just a really shit place to go & watch football. I always end up downstairs with a pint, wishing I was in the boozer. PB
Underpants Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Never really thought like packing it all in but over the years my match day involvement has diminished. Very few all dayer???s away from home, in-fact very few away games now, and I use to go to ALL of them. Home games meant King Bill or W&H at 11:30am and not getting home till late. Like has already been said, football got in the way of a good day out. The difference between then and know is the cost of the thing, and back then all my money went on football because I live with my parents. I can give you a list as long as my arm of times I have thought to myself why do I bother? My priorities lie somewhere else now but if I???m not going to an away game I will always try to seek out a boozer showing the match or get near a radio. I???ve never lost my passion for the Wanderers. I have to say that our UEFA campaign this season has rekindled the feelings that I had when I first started watching the Wanderers during the 'Dark Days'.
wovlad Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I saw my first games during the 77/78 season. I was always going to be a bolton fan. The atmsophere at Burnden was electric and I was hooked from the minute i walked into the ground. It went downhill from there. Well the form of our club did anyway. Before long I was watching us getting stuffed 3-0 on Bonfire night along with less than 3000 other fans against Darlo. That and as somebody else has mentioned Aldershot & you can thrown in Scarborough as being our darkest days. Never thought about giving up being a Bolton fan though.

Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FACT YOU CANT BUY THEM EMOTIONS ANYMORE =; =;
